I accidently chose retail POS but my store is online
I've gone through all the help topics and all the online posts about changing from retail to online only and every solution does not work for me. All I want to do is change from retail POS to online. I use opencart and the app works, but only when the client chooses google pay and not credit card. Attached below is a screenshot.
My developer said it might be because of the subscription. I've followed all the directions but there is no way to actually change the subscription. Honestly it shouldn't be this difficult to do. Eventually I want to add afterpay and pay by bank account. Can somebody help?

That sounds frustrating! From what I know, Square’s subscriptions are tied to specific features, and if you originally signed up for Retail POS, switching to just an online store isn’t always straightforward. Your developer might be onto something—subscriptions can sometimes limit what’s available, and certain payment methods may not be fully integrated if the plan isn’t aligned with your business model.
Since you’re using OpenCart and having issues with credit card payments, it could also be a compatibility issue with Square’s API settings for your current plan. I’d recommend reaching out to Square Support directly and asking them to manually switch your subscription to an Online-only plan. Sometimes, backend changes need their intervention.
Hope you get it sorted out soon! If you do, let us know what worked in case someone else runs into the same issue.

The good news is I finally managed to get the system to accept an Amex without going through google pay. We did a lot of sandbox testing and all went well. I'm going to wait a little bit to see if other cards start getting through before going to support. Setting up the API was a bit of a challenge too as my developer is Ukrainian and Square has developer tools blocked outside the USA. This makes me wonder if customers outside the USA would be blocked from making payments. Would kind of defeat the purpose of the system entirely if that's the case.
I like the features of Square, more so than PayPal which is the reason I decided to make the switch. Hopefully I can get it working correctly.
