Square loan approval, then denied for “associated account”

I was preapproved for a square loan, once I applied for it I got denied for an “associated account “

I called immediately because that’s obviously fraudulent activity.

Support tells me they will escalate my case to a escalations manager.

Escalation emails me and says my account is associated with another email.

I urgently responded because I only have 1 square account. Could someone be using my info ? I’ve had many square loans and never had to deal with something like this.

Anyone dealt with something similar?

I can't say I have heard of that issue specifically.  That is definitely an account specific issue that is tough.  I'm not even sure what that could mean as an email can only have one account.

Please post back here what details you get if any more.

The closest one I have seen was the guy who was a approved and boom gone over a prior loan 58.00 outstanding bill that the owner didn't know his “silent partner/investor took out and they parted ways. Square just took the 58.00 dollars at the 60-day mark but it left him with a default in the loan column. I don't let employees, or leave any login credentials in the cash register type thing. Usually, ID theft are going to nail you fast and hard, and move on. They wouldn't sit around for a random loan to pop up. Definitely, need more information. BTW, wishing you the best wishes for 2025!

The last one I saw that had this issue was a gentleman who had a business partner/investor is how he put it. Didn't sound all too formal like an LLC or legal partnership. He had access to all Square information and he was put on his bank as well by this gentleman. He did take an offer from a few square loans and the only way the business owner found out was he didn't pay the final payment of 58.00 yes, 58.00! Which left him in bad standings. Offered a loan and boom jerked it back! Does anyone have access to your email address and square information like login etc.? We have employees and if im not there and the power goes out they have to log on again. Only 3 of us will be in 5 minutes. My husband, my son, and myself. A random ID theft of your email for a loan is very odd and IMO as a bad ID theft victim 13 loans, 4 personal loans, and a bank account at zero! This doesn't seem to fit the bill. The odds of it don't seem to fit. When you are offered a loan are you doing it yourself and nobody else in the office or workers that monitor Square for you? Keep us posted! I side on security and safety especially now and you might want to get another email address especially if you have had that one for years and years. Once you get with your Rep who's helping you ask them to help you update your new email account so you know it's done and right and nobody else has it. Best of luck and I hope it all works out.

I was approved for a $20,000 loan. I paid it off fast.

I was pre approved for another loan which I planned on utilizing to further my businesses growth.

I got a email denial because my account is “associated” with another co worker of mine?

Which makes no sense to me because I’m an independent contractor that works with 16 other barbers in a barber shop that all have separate square accounts & run their own businesses.

Has anyone had an experience like this ? I’ve paid off multiple square loans on time & early. Consistent income/ transactions. To be honest the loan aspect of square is the only reason I really keep using it, might have to make the switch.

😆 I don't know either but I guess I go more into the prior experience or others and follow the trends. And it is hard for ones say 1-3 years who just can't get past how it used to be to how it is now. And now although different does benefit the business and not just the need or I want or why. And I try to explain it's not you or your business it's a chance to get the most to boost your business which is a great thing. They tend to understand it better or it makes more sense. But the Just the extra presence of Mods is amazing lately and fast! Kudos for helping especially the newer ones. See you tomorrow and yes I have a list! 😆

First I would 100% take @marielmt advice as everyone is different and what is connected to your account is different than say mine. 1st I understand you are all independent and its worked in the past with no issues. 2. Are anyone using the same physical address 3. The same landline to schedule appointments 3. Out of everyone is anyone using the same bank? In square last virtual meeting I attended they were really trying to crack down on or enforce security measures. Unfortunately, businesses like yours or consignment stores with 30-40 different vendors in one building because of multiple uses of say the same physical address, phone number, 2 or 3 using the same bank but different account numbers sends up a red flag. I would definitely call like @marielmt suggested and explain your business and how it operates and each person is 100% separate from you and tell them about your history with Square and nothing has changed since day 1 and go from there. They might need some more information also just IMO only it's not a bad thing to just double check to make sure with multiple vendors everyone and everything is all good on everybody's end especially if you are the sole person or the main person who operates, rent/leases the building. I only say this because yes I have seen this multiple times before and nothing surprises me anymore. But I strongly recommend calling in and just getting to the right person who will look into it and address it and note it so you can get back into the algorithm and get an offer. Good luck to you and please keep us posted it really does help others who are facing the same or similar issues.
