Square Stand 2nd gen v2 lightning - reader failed to connect

I just got a second generation (first version - lightning not USB-C) square stand. I connected my iPad to the stand and opened the POS app. A message popped up saying I could use the Appointments app for everything so I headed there. The stand tries to connect in the Appointments app and fails with the message “reader failed to connect” so I cannot take card payments. It seems to connect and work fine through the POS app. Any fixes for the appointments app? I’ve gone through the troubleshooting guide and tried everything there. I’ve contacted support and am waiting on a reply but wanted to see if anyone else is having this issue.

It seems like the Square Stand works with the POS app but not the Appointments app. Since you've tried troubleshooting and contacted support, try these steps while you wait:

  1. Update both apps.
  2. Reinstall the Appointments app.
  3. Check app permissions for Bluetooth and location.
