I have a Square Terminal. In setting up my menu, how do I enforce a particular sort order for items (SMALL COFFEE, LARGE COFFEE, BANANA BREAD etc)? It just seems to be alphabetical which is not what I need as it will make finding items quickly difficult (fast take-away coffee environment). I tried naming the items with a numerical prefix which did work but since the menu is synched with my Ritual system, the customer sees this too and that is not what I want either. Can anyone help, am I missing seeing this feature somewhere in the setup??

Hey @Suzstagg,
Thanks for reaching out.
While items are not currently able to be re-ordered on the POS app, I can suggest a couple of things to help make life easier here.
1) For an item such as Coffee, you need not have separate item listening for all your sizes of coffee - you could create a single item "Coffee" then add variations for sizes (small, medium, large etc). Once set up you'd just tap on "Coffee" and from there the POS would allow you to select a size you've set up as an item variation. Here's an example I had at hand:
You can also add additional modifier sets to add things like type of milk, sugars, etc. In this example, I've added a "flavour" modifier and applied it to the "milkshake" item, so that these options will appear when adding the item at point of sale:
Hopefully approaching your items like this will cut down some of the clutter and time spent navigating your item list.
My other suggestion is that using the search bar at the top of the item list can be useful for locating items quickly - typing in the first 3 letters of the item should help the item appear quickly in the item list in the POS app!
Finally, we are also working on making some improvement to how the app works here, so expect some changes to make item navigation a little easier in the future 🙂

Thanks for the reply, @Seamus . The issue I have with this solution is speed of entry. If someone wishes to order a small skim latte with 2 sugars then it is 3 presses before getting to the payment screen. in terms of accepting payment, I do not need this information. We have previously been using Kounta and this same transaction is one item and a fast cash button. Total transaction time is about 5 seconds. Square equivalent is about 4 times this.....

Fair enough @Suzstagg!
Part of it may be getting used to the workflow/muscle memory of a new POS, but I can definitely understand that an extra tap is an extra tap! It would be great to have the option of customising things a little more on the mobile app to help speed things up and set up a more accessible way to add your most common items to a transaction.
We've got a couple of things in the works that may help here in the future - one being the ability to connect Terminal to a tablet for processing transactions, which would give you increased screen real estate with a grid view. You'd run the transaction through on a tablet, and the customer would use the Terminal to tap/insert their card and enter a PIN.
We're also looking at adding a cut down version of the grid view that will fit onto the smaller Terminal screen. It won't have as much space as the tablet grid view, but it could be another option to consider. Let me know if you'd be interested in taking part in a beta trial of any of these feature and I'll put you in touch with our Beta Manager.
