How can I apply a surcharge on the Square Terminal?

Hi hello. First time posting in here. We have been using our square terminal for a few years now and love it. And have just been advised by our accountant to "turn on the fees" as it's costing us a lot of extra within our small business. So we have done that, but my question is...Within Aldi if you choose savings you are using your own money and don't get a fee, but if you tap or choose credit then yes the fee is in-cured. Is there a way that my customers have an option to use there own money and skip the terminal fee (other than them direct depositing into our account)? I've tested it out by manually choosing "savings" and the terminal fee is still there.

Is this an option that I've set up wrong or is it simply a fee no matter how they pay?

Hi @JTS12Volt,

I noticed it's your first time posting since joining the Seller Community! It’s great to see a new face here. 👋

To clarify, with Square, card processing fees are automatically charged to the seller (the account owner), not your customers. We collect these fees by deducting them from your Square balance before transferring funds to you.

It sounds like your accountant is suggesting that you enable a surcharge on your Square Terminal. This feature allows you to pass the cost of card processing fees onto your customers when they pay with a card, similar to what you might see at Aldi.

The good news is that this feature was recently introduced in the Australian market and is currently in beta. We’ll continue to make improvements based on Seller feedback, but any Australian Square Seller can enable automatic surcharges on their account.

I hope this clears things up! If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out.
