Can I change the name of the owner on my Square account?

Hiya! Can you please direct me on how to update my name as it appears in the 'owner' section? I have recently married and have changed my surname. Thank you!

What you're referring to here sounds like a couple of different issues. At the moment Square does not support the change of account ownership, and for compliance reasons we need to have a record of you name on your Square account. If your business ever changes hands the solution to this would be to simply create a new account registered in a new name!

 

As for how your name / business name displays to your customers on products such as invoices or appointments, this can be changed via staff settings and location settings - though it may be worth getting in touch with support to confirm which setting applies to which place you're seeing your name. Note that in staff settings the owner's name is not be editable at the moment, however you can set up additional staff members if you needed to allocate yourself to an appointment under a different name.

At the moment it's not possible to change the legal name of the owner of a Square account. Sorry I couldn't be of more help here!

@Seamus  this question has been asked a lot over the last 3 years. Doesn't Square have the legal obligation to amend this flawed feature that violates the Privacy Act of 1988 and threatens the privacy and safety of your customers!?

Yeah. I'm that lady. I will hound you guys until this is fixed. "Sorry I couldn't be of more help" is not going to cut it. 

 

I cannot invoice or send appointments to my clients because doing so will disclose *personal information* that I do NOT want my clients to know.

 

Will this problem finally be addressed by the company or do I need to push this further to consumer affairs?

Hi @Seamus,

 

I changed the "Display Name" in "staff settings/Edit Staff" and it successfully changed the staff name displayed to customers when an appointment is booked with Square Appointments.

 

However when a customer books an appointment with "Reserve with Google", the name still says the original name, not the "Display Name".

 

In "Edit Staff" under "VISIBILITY AND DISPLAY", "Display Name", the description reads:

 

"Replaces staff name on booking site and all client communication."

 

Why does this not occur in "Reserve with Google" when a customer books an appointment?

Hey @Ksenia!

 

Can you try unlinking then relinking the Google integration and letting me know if that changes the name? I'm not 100% sure how that integration works and interprets data from Square, but usually unlinking and relinking integrations is a good first step to take!

Thank you for your response.

 

I just had to wait for 1 day for Google to update - now it shows the display name when booking an appointment.

 

In the end I did not have to unlink Google.
