How to track inventory by main item instead of variations

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Tracking inventory as whole and not by variation

I'd like to keep track of inventory on the item not by variation. We sell wood fire pizzas with 3 variations. Say we have 18 pizzas total but they can order any of the 3. When the dough(18) is gone I don't want anyone to be able to order. What's the best way to do this. This is online weekly store.

Thanks

@PaulsKitchen - inventory is tracked on a variation level. Once a variations are created, they're treated as completely separate items within the Item Library, so they each have their own inventory count.

You might be interested in adding modifiers of each pizza type (Online Store editor > Items > click item > Manage Modifiers). Modifiers don't require adding stock so inventory pulls from the main item.
