[New] Square public Product Roadmap

Hi sellers, 🌟

We’re excited to share something new — Square’s Public Product Roadmap!

We know running a business means planning ahead, staying nimble, and making the most of every tool you have. Now, we’re giving you a clear view into what we’re working on — so you can plan alongside us and we can build smarter, more relevant tools together.

Think of it as your sneak peek into what’s next. It’s not just a list of features — it’s a living, evolving plan that will grow as we do.

By opening up our roadmap, we’re inviting you into the process. Whether you’re a restaurateur, retailer, beauty business, or professional service provider, your feedback helps us create tools that truly work for you.

You’ll see what we have planned for the next six months, and we’ll update it every quarter so you can keep following along.

Share your feedback in the comments — tell us what excites you, what’s missing, and how we can make Square even more helpful for your day-to-day.

We can’t wait to hear what you think — and to keep building the future of Square with you.

These are amazing! Can’t wait for the roll out!

Just ran through the list... this is so exciting!!  The report for fees alone makes my world easier!!!

I’m looking forward to the fees report. I’m looking forward to see how I can use the other roll out items. Looking forward to the future of growing with square.

Love this, a ton of great functionality on the horizon! One thing missing that I think would be a great addition is the incorporation of AI/modeling for sales into Square Shifts so we can see total scheduled labor percentages as we add/remove shifts. Currently we do that with an Excel spreadsheet side-by-side with Shifts and it seems like an easy feature to add, since all the sales and labor rate data is already in Square.

Excited for many of the tools coming.

Kudos to Square for "showing their cards" when it comes to POS development.  As a business owner, I completely agree that it is much easier to "deal with some issues" when you know that some improvement is coming.  Thank you for doing this.

I'm personally looking forward for the "tip during the transaction" changes, as well as the gift card reconciliation and tip pooling improvements, amongst others.

Would it be possible to create "deposits" for restaurants too?   We do some large group events and being able to take a deposit would be helpful.

Keep up the great work!

Square

Thanks all for the comments. It is so great to hear your feedback!

@PizzaDive you are able to do that with Square AI today! Square AI is in open beta and discoverable on the Square Dashboard. You can ask there your questions about sales and labor. To learn more, check out the Square AI support article

@SVLFever thank you for the suggestion on deposits! We will share your feedback with our product team!

This is great.  It has been smoke and mirrors or more of a secret development all these years.  Love to see future features laid out so we can see what is coming to help us run our businesses.

The things that excite me are:

- Wix integration

- Switch modes remotely

What I'd Like to See

- Modifiers being able to be kept track of inventory wise (a rum and mixer for example, where mixers can be several sizes)

- Card based loyalty as an option

- Square savings in Aus

Yay. This is a major step forward, Square. And I’m liking what I see. Sure, I notice a few things I wish were here. But I’m also noticing more things I asked for, too. So I’ll take the wins. Thank you

I’m posting this as both a long-time IT professional (25+ years) and in my volunteer role as Treasurer and Board Member of the Allen County Amateur Radio Technical Society (ACARTS). We run one of the largest hamfests (electronics trade shows) in the Midwest, with hundreds of vendors and thousands of attendees. I am also a licensed amateur radio operator (W9KMH).

Our nonprofit was prepared to standardize on Square for this year’s event. But reviewing the recently published Square feature roadmap, I couldn’t help but notice:

  • Not a single item mentions scanner support for Android.

  • The word “Android” appears only once, and it’s about passkeys, not about POS functionality.

  • There are no hardware improvements, no expansion of supported devices, and no effort to bring Android merchants to parity with iOS.

Meanwhile, the problems remain:

  • USB scanners on Android only work in keyboard wedge mode. Staff must click into the search field before every scan — that’s not integration, it’s a workaround.

  • Bluetooth scanners on Android aren’t supported at all, despite cordless 2D Bluetooth scanners being the standard in retail and events.

  • Competitors (Clover, Shopify POS, Lightspeed) already support these workflows on Android.

Square’s roadmap is full of flashy features — AI chat, photo auto-polish, DoorDash integration, Bitcoin payments — but none of that matters if the core checkout flow is slower and clunkier than it should be. At our event scale, those delays add up to hours of lost transaction time, longer lines, and frustrated vendors.

As Treasurer of a nonprofit responsible for financial systems that directly affect hundreds of vendors, I have to ask: why should we stay with Square when competitors are solving problems Square won’t even acknowledge?

What Android merchants need:

  • True support for USB-HID scanners on Android, with scans auto-routed into Item Search/Add Item.

  • Native support for cordless Bluetooth 2D scanners on Android, just as already exists for iOS.

Square markets itself as cross-platform, but this roadmap makes Android merchants feel like second-class citizens. If this doesn’t change, we’ll be forced to evaluate competitor platforms this season — and when we move, we bring our vendor community with us.

Hi @ACARTS1, welcome to the Square Community and thank you for taking the time to share such thoughtful and detailed feedback. We can tell how much experience and consideration you’ve put into this. We also understand how critical Android functionality is for organizations like yours, especially when smooth checkout directly impacts vendor and attendee experiences.

We hear your frustration that our most recent roadmap doesn’t show significant new Android hardware integrations. While we can’t share specifics beyond what’s publicly outlined, we want to reassure you that Android remains an important part of our platform strategy, and feedback like yours helps us advocate for where additional focus is needed.

We’ve shared your feedback directly with our product team, and even if our roadmap today doesn’t reflect all the Android features you need, your perspective helps shape where we go next. Thank you again for your candid input and for considering Square for your event.
