Why can’t I use a PO box number to create my Square account?

I’m trying to activate an account and it is saying I can’t put my p.o box number or land location when I don’t have an actual physical street address.

Hey @Chelss13, this is a great question.

When activating an account we will use your residence address to tie back to the other information you've entered. Since you can't live at a P.O. Box we can't use it approve your application to accept credit cards.

If you live in a rural area, I recommend using the address you would use for your license or what's listed on your mortgage if you have one.

If you're still having trouble our Support Team can help.

Having the same issue here still. Neither works. Ideas? How is this still a problem 2 years later?

Hi @mrhyland, I'm sorry for the frustration that this has caused. In order to activate your Square account you are required to enter a physical mailing address. But after you account has been set up you can use a PO Box address to receive your reader.

If you're still running into trouble you could try the following:

  • Use legal land description or any previous physical mailing address you’ve had in the last six months.
  • Or you can try entering 'General Delivery' in the street address field.
