Issues with data usage?
I've been using Square for several years and have suddenly had a massive increase in data usage through the app.
I have a monthly data allowance of 5gb, which is usually ample.
Today, however, it chewed through 2.64mb in one hour.
The Square support thread about data lists 10kb/transaction, 8kb to sign in. It was a quiet hour with only 5 transactions and assuming the tablet timed out a couple of times in that hour so I can't figure out how it used more than 0.7mb.
I did raise a support question but got an uninterested brush off saying 'we can't change the amount of data used for transactions'.
Just wondering if anyone else has had any similar problems?

The system shouldn't take too much data per transaction, certainly not the data usage you are saying. The only thing I can suggest is make sure you do not have any other possible apps running in the background, and just have the minimum running and see if this helps.

Hey @TheTruckleTruck, thank you for flagging this! It does seem strange that your data usage has suddenly gone up. Typically, the data used in a transaction with Square is small enough to not worry about getting more than the basic plan. In most cases, Square will use less than 10kb per transaction. If an international customer provides a signature, no more than 50kb will be used for the transaction.
However, as @doc_choc mentioned, there could be other apps that you are running simultaneously to the Square app that may be eating through your data. I'd recommend getting in touch with your carrier to see if there are other apps/devices that could be causing this.
