Photo mixups

We have been using Weebly for our website since 2015.  We work with a lot of images and probably have thousands currently on our site.  Within just the past couple months, images have been randomly mixed up all throughout the website.  Often the images that get mixed up have the same file name as another (not always).  Weebly told us in a chat that this is probably why we're experiencing this issue.  But we don't understand why we didn't have this problem before now.  Is anyone else experiencing this issue?  Has anyone found a solution other than rebuilding their site or removing and re-labeling and reuploading all their images?  Thank you.

Thanks for your post, @LWB. We didn't always retain the filename of images in the past, and we made the change to give more control over the SEO of your website (since image filenames can be used by search engines). In the past we just converted the filename to something else, so it didn't matter what the name of the image was.

Thank you for the reply.  Is this change something that will remain in effect?  Is there anything that can be done to overrule this change for our particular websites?  Otherwise, we're looking at many hours of work ahead to get our websites back to the way they are supposed to be.

I would not expect this to change and as far as I'm aware there's not a way to override it on a per-site or account basis, unfortunately.

I see.  Should we replace every picture on our 2 web-sites, or is there a possiblity that once the new system has been in place a bit longer the pictures will stop being replaced by other pictures and we can just focus on the ones that messed up?     Today they are still randomly messing up.  We delete photos that aren't supposed to be in particular slideshows, (photos that were there for years with no issue) and check hours later and new wrong pictures are there.  Pictures from each of our two websites, concerning unrelated businesses, are crossing over to the other site.   It is becoming time consuming and unprofessional on our business front...

It sounds like a lot of work, but I think the best course of action is to replace the images. I agree with Adam that this probably will not change.

I am having the same issue between 3 websites - this is horrible.  One site is for a baby shower.  Now, there are photos posted that are inappropriate for that site and belong to another website.  GRRRRR

Basically this change is a major screw up on Weebly's part.  That's what your saying, right Adam?  The more times I read the response to the "why" the madder it makes me Weebly screwed with their customers websites.  More control over SEO is a bull crap response that does not explain why images are crossing over into other sectors of our websites.

I have 2 different sites created to remember dead loved ones of different families.  One sites photos are showing up randomly on the other sites.  This is completely unacceptable and weebly needs to fix whatever the issue is.  One of these sites is having the 1 year anniversary of a death and having someone elses pictures showing up in their photo gallery is a terrible issue to be worrying about.  Weebly's explanation makes no sense whatsoever.  There are millions of files named 001photo for instance.  Every camera roll starts with 001 when taking photos.  The same file name only becomes an issue when 2 files of the same name are placed in the same location/directory.  Photos uploaded to a single site OR directory should have zero affect on the files of a completely different site / directory.  Unless Weebly has decided to place all of your photos into a single directory which makes zero sense, there should not be any mixup.

I had this experience too, only with just one photo. I'm having a problem replacing the photo that was mysteriously changed.

Hi @CER This tends to happen if the images do not have unique file names. Can you please confirm that all of your uploaded images have different names?

I handle several non-profit websites.  The photo albums are cross-contaminated between all the sites with photos from another website.  This is a horrible mess and I need a resolution.  I uploaded photos for an event last year and now it has photos from another website that were taken last month.  So, be careful if you handle more than one website!!

I have had the same problem.  It's super disheartening to click on an old blog post and see the wrong pictures.  Some of those images are forever gone.  This is definitely something they need to fix.  Same file name or not, their system should know it is attached to different points on the site and this should be remedied at upload.
