can we use square card reader in our own customized pos application?

Hi,

We are looking for a solution for our app to collect the payment using a swiping device. Our app generates the invoice amount and we need a solution like attaching a swiping device to our iPhone or Android device. Swiping the card should automatically pick the amount from our app and process it and in return it should throw success or failure message.

Can you please let me know if Square has any kind of solution for this scenario.

Hi @NaliniCT - Thanks for reaching out.

Square readers will only work with Square software and there currently isn't a way to make it work with your app if it is processing the payments on its own. In other words, if you are not using Square to process your payments to your Square account, then the reader would not work.

If, however, you are looking to still use Square as your actual payments processor and want to integrate our software into your app, you can check out our Square API feature.

 @puka thanks for the reply , could you please tell me that if iam using the custom pos application then my customer wants to pay certain amount to me then how can the process takes i mean that we cannot have swiping device and how and where the payment transaction takes place giving the debit card/credit card details?

I'm afraid I'm having trouble understanding your question. If you are building your own POS app, you would need to talk to a developer about how to create your own reader to work with your app. Our reader will only work with Square.
