Exporting item descriptions?
Hello,
I spent weeks and weeks typing out item descriptions for my items and I wanted to back them up, only to discover that there is currently no feature allowing the export of my item descriptions? How is this fundamental feature missing?
1- I want to export the items to import in a new public facing website. I cannot do this, as the descriptions would not transfer.
2- I want to back up my descriptions. I cannot do this, because item export apparently does not include descriptions as it is hard to transfer HTML to CSV.
3- I want to bulk edit my items by exporting and importing, but if I import an empty description column, will I lose my old descriptions?
I find it hard to believe that this issue hasn't been addressed since 2016. Weebly has a lot of fundamental features that are missing, brought up by the audience, and never addressed. I cannot even migrate platforms properly due to this lack of feature either. It is getting quite frustrating dealing with your platform.

Sorry to hear that you're having a frustrating time at the moment.
I'm hoping I have a solution that works?
If you're in your Dashboard > Items. You should see something like this:
You'll see under "Actions" on the right hand side that "Export library" is highlighted. I chose to export to Excel and got a file that looked like this:
You could probably edit the file to have your product name and description only?
In terms of importing to a new website, I see that you can import a library as well with the option to modify or overwrite:
If you click modify, the next step asks to download your currently library and add in your new items. It also says your existing items would be revised, not deleted.
I would suggest trying to download your existing library with descriptions, edit the file to ensure you have all of the descriptions saved, and then proceed with a copy of your library download to edit whatever you like. Then you can upload an edited version and see how it goes knowing that you have your descriptions saved?

Hi Lenjo!
My issue is when I export all my items from the library, the entire description row is empty in the resulting excel sheet. So this does not help solve the issue. I've brought it up to technical support half a year ago and they noticed the issue as well, yet nothing has been done!

@fcart, I'm sorry to hear that you are still experiencing this issue. Let me look into this and find someone who has a greater understanding of the inner details of Weebly / Square Online.

Hi again @fcart,
I spoke to my team about this and it appears you are in a rather unique situation. From what we can see, you are running off a Weebly account that has the Square Online editor, so even though the website editor is the same it is not quite the same as a Square Online account. This is a bit of grey area after the new editor was released, but before they made the sign-up flow on Weebly make you create a Square Online account.
That being said, your item descriptions SHOULD still be included when you export, although they might lose styling.

Thanks for the response. I have tried contacting square support and kept being transferred to weebly support. 3 hours on Weebly support now and agents keep switching, making me wait 30mins between texts, and ultimately I got this answer:
" I am going to escalate this to my engineering team to research. They will be in touch once they are able to find a solution." "No, Im sorry, we do not have an estimated time at this moment."
I am honestly just looking for a way to export my item descriptions as I have spent a lot of time on them.
6 months ago I brought up the same issue, and still no answers.

I understand how frustrating this is. While the support team works on this issue, I've sent your most recent message to a couple of our Square Online / Weebly engineers to see if they can at least export your item descriptions once and provide you with a CSV file. They are discussing it and I'll let you know what they say (likely end of this week or early next week).

Update: The engineers have added this as an item to look into during their next sprint. Roughly 1 week from today. I'll keep you posted on any updates.

The final answer I got from from Weebly support was “well you can always copy paste them one by one from your web page”

My apologies for the slow response. I've checked back in with the engineering team that I'm in contact with. While it is still on their list to tackle this issue in an upcoming sprint, they have not had the chance yet as some other emergencies have come up in the past week. They hope to tackle it in the next couple weeks. I'll bug them about it again after next week.
I'm not certain that they will be able to permanently fix the issue, but I'm hoping they can at least have someone export your item descriptions for you. Again, I'm sorry you've been stuck in this circumstance.
