Background
Currently, e-gift card discounts can be created without an effective start date or a clear end date. This leads to discounts being left active indefinitely, sometimes without the store owner realizing it. For example, a discount I created during the Christmas holidays is still active because no end date was set — I only discovered this while recently activating new Gift Card options.
Task Request:
To help prevent this and make site maintenance easier, we propose that all e-gift card discounts must have a defined effective start date and either a fixed end date or an option for an open-ended expiration (if intentional).
Goals:
- Prevent discounts from being left active unintentionally.
- Ensure all discounts have clear timeframes for easier management.
- Improve visibility and control over active promotions.
Acceptance Criteria:
- All e-gift card discounts must include a required start date.
- Discounts must include either:
- A required end date **OR**
- An explicit "No end date" option (clearly marked as intentional).
- If no end date is selected, a warning/confirmation should prompt the user to confirm open-ended discount.
- Existing discounts without end dates should prompt an update or review.
Outcome:
This change will help prevent accidental long-term discounts, reduce manual cleanup, and improve overall site maintenance.
