Inventory upload problem

I uploaded the spreadsheet with updated inventory numbers and there apparently was something wrong with something in the “reference handle” column. When it uploaded the system changed values in vendors, duplicated items, assigned photos to other items, and more. After 3 hours with phone support we tried to upload the original download and it completely overlooked many items. Has anyone ever experienced this scenario or anything similar?

As I see this is your first post let me welcome you to the Square Sellers Forum.

 

I have not come accross your exact sitituation, but I have found that when I Download my Square catalog, my mouse if I accidetially add a cell above the Token field or the Refrence Handle field things do go sideways FAST.

 

What I do to solve this:

  1. Do not tap the Mouse in a wrong Field.
  2. Download my most recent Catalog and rename it before opening it and add original to the end.  Upload this if things go sideways
  3. Before makeing changes I add Updated to the end of the field name so I do not accidentally overwrite the original. Save it again.
  4. Now I Make all changes to the Updated Catalog file save it then upload it to Square.
  5. If all looks good I am done, if sideways look to see if easy fix or just upload the Original file.
  6. Then I repeat the above steps if needed until everything is good.
  7. Keep the Original File incase it looked good but Find an error before editing again.

The Refrence Handle and Token Fields is what Square uses to indentify a Catalog Item, not the Name Column or Field.  If one of those gets accidentally realigned to another item everything gets messed up as you described.  Before things go bad I usually get an error Square cannot upload the file because of an error.  I look at the error report and fix the error and try again.
