Started last night right before closing (perfect timing...). Kept getting the same error message despite there being no card inserted. After the first error, I cancelled the payment then got a banner message saying the reader was being updated, still have the same error. Can't even take cash payments as the error pops up immediately after clicking pay. Second stand this year that has given me issues. First one wouldn't accept payments at all, there was no stand connected despite the iPad being plugged in and charging, and now this. Getting more and more frustrated with Square lately. 😕
Other notes:
- It's the stand not iPad, swapped iPads between registers and same error happened on other iPad.
- All devices and apps updated to the latest software.
- Tried all troubleshooting. Restarting iPad and restaurants app, deleting app, unplugging the stand, restarting the stand, inserting a card with a piece of paper over it, blowing into the chip reader. All to no avail.

Hello @Ice_Cream_Fam !
With all the troubleshooting you've done, I'm leaning towards another hardware failure for you unfortunately--especially since you're seeing the trouble when using an alternate iPad. The only thing I'd say try still is restart on your stand itself, which is found at More -> Settings -> Hardware -> Square Stand. The update may have been interrupted which is why you're seeing the problems.
After that I'd recommend contacting support and explaining all this to them. They'll make you run through a series of tests, mostly everything you've already tried. Hopefully you're still within a warranty window and you'll get a new stand sent to you.
I agree it's frustrating. My stand just went down the same path as yours. Thankfully the warranty is pretty good and should get you back up and running pretty quickly. In the meantime, if you have one of the contactless readers available you can link it to your stand and just use that for cards.

Thanks for the reply! Did try to restart the stand multiple times, never worked. Hopefully it will be covered under warranty, but we've had it for a bit so I doubt it. Fingers crossed!
