Kitchen and bar printers will randomly reprint tickets of already ordered items

We are experiencing ticket issues with Square as well, with no resolution in sight, I have been speaking with “advanced engineering” for about 2 months. We are also a high volume, extremely busy restaurant. Our kitchen and service bar printers are experiencing random reprints of already ordered items. We get between 20-30 at the bar and up to 10 a day in the kitchen. At the service bar a lot of the ticket reprints, print with a hash tag in front if the table number. if the bartenders are really paying attention at least they can catch the service bar reprints and hopefully not make the drinks. But there is no differentiation between reprints and original tickets in the kitchen. It doesn’t matter what handheld someone is using,, it doesn’t matter if someone is using a stationary Computer, it happens every day, and it  is causing a tremendous loss for our company and bogs down our kitchen and bar. I am extremely frustrated and it is very stressful on our staff, Nes software “glitches” also happen randomly. I’m constantly troubleshooting those as well. But they have not found a way to stop the reprints.

I gave up on Square and went back to Toast last month. Square won’t fix any issues and they just aren’t ready for full service restaurants. I gave it 18 months but, it was the most frustrating 18 months of my 23 years of being in business. Run! Save yourself!   I have so much less stress since switching away from square. I’m sure this comment will get deleted before you see it but, Square will promise you that engineering is working on it and it NEVER gets fixed

By the way, the reprints were happening when I first started Square in February 2024. They never fix any of these ‘glitches’. It’s the worst system and cost me way more time and money than saved me. And it probably took 5 years off my life. Toast is absolute perfection! My staff was so happy to get rid of Square

@Elymn Ouch, ticket reprints can be costly. And I am guessing that you have already taken the following steps.

1. Your Square software is up to date. 
2. How many printer profiles do you have set up? The fewer the better.
3. I am assuming you have taken the time to delete all of your printer profiles and then start from scratch and re-create them? And then reconnecting each station to the correct printer profile. I ran into printer issues last summer and found where some of my staff kept creating profiles to "fix" a problem when actually they were making a bigger problem.

 

And yes, software issues can be very stressful on staff. Hoping you can get this issue fixed quickly.

We have the same problem but it’s only happen when we closed the check. Square send all the order again but it doesn’t said reprint. Do you use ipad or their handheld? I tried to change all the printer profile also their mode, but its still no luck. All i can do is to turn on the coursing. So now instead of sending the order it just send course # fired. At least we are not losing $ but making the foods. So far no help from square.

I am going to recommend that you take a quiet time to delete all of your printer profiles. Disconnect all of your printers and start from scratch. Start with one printer profile and connect your printer. Make sure you only have the correct items being sent to the printer. Do a test. If you have success, then start adding devices to the printer and printer profile. Be patient. You can make this work.
