Can I limit the number of cards to split a check / tender?

Is there a setting that can limit the number of credit cards (or times) a check/tender can be split.  We would like to limit the split to 3 cards maximum and have a manager override if needed for more than 3 cards.  Is this a setting somewhere or possible?

Hi @oenotri.  You can not through Square currently. You’ll just have to make and enforce a company policy for now.

Definitely, submit a feature request here. Put in the Restaurants board but indicate that it should apply, optionally, to all POS platforms. I say optionally because this should be a setting for each seller to toggle on and off, s well as specify their maximum number of cards.

Can I ask why you want to limit this? Just curious

Thanks and we will submit as a feature to toggle on and off.

We have it as a "policy" but sometimes the servers don't enforce the policy and have split checks up to 8 or 9 times.  It has opened us up to user error on behalf of the servers on missing a card and we have lost revenue.

Understood.  One day, when I retire and write my “things restaurant employees wish you knew about you” tell-all book, this is going to be one of those things!  We live in an age of instant cash apps (Square, Venmo, etc).  No group should expect their server to split a check 8 ways!  That’s wrong on so many levels!  Like I always say — if you want to learn to dislike the general public, work in retail/food service!

I’m probably old school this way, but I’ve fired employees for less when it comes to policy violations.  First time they get a pass and a write up with a warning not to do it again.  Second time, I don’t care if I have to work an extra 20 hours a week for a while.  They are gone.  Like I said, I’m old school.  And a proud Boomer!  LOL
