Square terminal is not *real* contactless.

Hi,

I recently purchased the square terminal to sit alongside our square stand and POS for a customer facing display.

I chose this setup in preference over the Square Register as that device often lags behind in features.

Anyhoo, you can imagine my disappointment when I did some test transactions and noticed the itemised screen and a button which the customer has to press saying 'continue and pay' ?

Question; What is the purpose of this button? Can the device not show the items and then wait for the customer to tap their card/watch/phone ?

I release I can turn this off and go straight to a huge NFC/tap to pay logo, but that is not the reason I bought the device.

We trialed it this evening and the amount of customers who saw the items and total amount and then just held their phone over it was embarrassing, we then had to interact and either tell them to press the button (not easy in a noisy and busy environment) or press the button for them, thus defeating the objective of the display.

I can tell you, if I had purchased this device a year ago, when COVID was much more prevalent, I would have been extremely dissatisfied with the device, a customer actually having to touch my display to pay?!

Anyway, please can somebody let me know what the reason for this is, I am sure there is a very good reason it is configured like this.

Can I suggest an option that shows the itemised display and total but requires no input from staff or customer.

Thanks

D

Hi Square,

This is becoming a real problem now and makes the Square Terminal almost unusable.

Virtually every customer who is presented with the prompt on the terminal to "press and continue" just

holds their card over the display and ignores the text.

We then have to prompt them to press the 'button', 90% of the time it takes 2 or 3 presses for it to register.

Can anybody at square tell me if this is likely to be addressed?

Is anybody else who uses this device as a customer facing device, facing these issues?

Thanks

D
