Barcodes/square for retail/square terminal

Ok,  Recently got a barcode scanner.  I have Square for Retail (Virtual Terminal) using Square Terminal connected to my windows PC.   I can't figure out why I can scan products and my scanner works great in the backend in looking up items, creating items it does  everything except for when I try to do a check out in the virtual terminal. It just scans the number and puts that in as the price number stuff like 90millon. Should I switch to the Square point of sale version would that change anything and does square point of sale support tipping because tipping is a big part of our business.  I'm so confused right now.  We love square just wanted to make it a bit easier at check out with the barcode scanner.  We are dog groomers and the terminal is great.  It collects tips and does our retail, but would like to go to a barcode system.  Thanks in advance for the help.

First of all welcome to the Seller Community. At this time the Virtual Terminal is unable to take advantage of the Barcode Scanner to lookup items because of software/hardware limitations. I would suggest using the Square Terminal along with the Square Point of Sale and a hardware hub to be able to use your barcode scanner to check out items.

Isn't Square Point of Sale whats available on the Square Terminal? I'm confused. Is the hub and an internet connection all that are needed to use Square Terminal with a barcode scanner?
