A/B rollback aborted
Our Square Register was working fine until we powered on one morning to be greeted with a black screen saying to hold the power button to reset Register.
This does nothing and the screen says A/B rollback aborted.
There was nothing wrong with this machine until the nightly update and we are left with a bricked $800 device for no reason.
Is there anything we can do?
Customer support told me the power button may be stuck and to try rapidly pressing it but this does not help as it responds as normal.

Can you provide a picture of what you are seeing with the Register? Is it still not working? I apologize for the delay in response here, but want to help get it back up and running if you are still experiencing issues.

experiencing the same issue this morning. Hard to believe there is no other way to reset or troubleshoot. Customer support told me it’s out of warranty and I will have to replace the device. Seems coincidental this occurred one week after receiving the following email from square:
”Your Square Register is approaching an age where you are more likely to experience service disruptions or slower performance. Your device may also stop receiving software updates for new features and capabilities in the future. While you can still continue taking payments, we strongly recommend upgrading your older device to the latest model to avoid possible disruptions to your business. Our latest hardware has improved processing power, twice the memory, and faster payment speed. ”
