When I apply a discount, the cart creates multiple listings for the item.

Hi.

I applied a discount to one item in my online store. It's "buy 3, save 10%" so since each item is $20, when you buy 3 it would be $54 instead of $60. That works just fine.

But...

If I add another one of that item, it will create a new listing in the cart so it would be 2 listings (3 count in the first listing and 1 count in the second listing). If I add 5 items, it would be 3 separate listings (3 count in the first listing, 1 count in the second listing, and 1 count in the third listing).

Is there a way to make it a single listing without adding another listing for each additional item count? I want one listing to indicate 5 of that item.

The listing of Buy 3 to save 10% seems to work fine for you , But when 4 or 5 items are added the 4th and 5th items would not be on the same line since they do not Qualify for the discount.   What happens when you add 6 or 9 items that have the Discount applied?

Square is doing this to show 3 of the items were discounted because of the Discount you created.  The next 2 lines should be grouped together as 1 item if they are exactly the same and not a different Variation.  It also depends on if other items are ordered in between.  This is the way it works on the POS and Retail anyway.

If Square grouped all 5 items next to the Buy 3 to save 10% and the person bought 6, only 3 items get the discount, depending on how you created the Discount.  If you have it as at Least 3 items, then after buying 3 items the person would get a Discount also on the 4th and 5th items.  If it is marked Exactly 3 items to get discount, this could be a reason.  Hope this makes sense.

It's a bit hard to explain, so maybe if you can take a look at my website: https://www.midelah.com/ (please don't share this website yet - I'm not ready to open. I'm still just testing the website's functionality.)

  1. Go to Shop > Enveluxe™ > then add one to cart.
  2. Go to Cart.
  3. Add another for a total quantity of 2. This works fine and displays correctly.
  4. Add another for a total quantity of 3. This works fine and displays correctly with the correct discount.
  5. Add another for a total quantity of 4. Creates another listing.
  6. Add another for a total quantity of 5. Creates another listing if you add to the original item you added to cart.
  7. Add another for a total quantity of 6. This changes the original listing to a quantity of 4 at the discounted price and applies the discount to the following two single listings. It doesn't group them together.

It does work if you initially type in the quantity number, but if someone changes their mind and wants to add to the quantity during checking by clicking the "plus" button, it gets confusing. I want the checkout process to be seamless.

I see what you are saying....  Not sure why Square does it this way but when you add to cart and adjust the Quantity to 3, 6 or any multiple of 3 it shows 1 line at the discounted price.  If you add 5 items you have 2 lines one line at discounted price and 1 at the regular price.  Now if I add 3 to the cart, View cart.... 1 line shows for 3 at the discounted price,  see the price add 1 more item ..... now two are shown as 1 line at discount and 1 line at regular.   Then if I say oh I forgot and should get mone more you get 3 at saving on 1 line and 1 line of 1 at regular then 1 more line at regular price instead of similar to when I saw the item and Just typed in add 5 to cart.  I am not sure why Square does this when it is the same Item and not adding them together.  I see what you mean here are my images.

Top image I added 5 at once.... this looks good

Add 5 to purchase.png

The below image I add 3, checked the image, added 1 more, then looked at the cart and added 1 more.   Not sure why at the time of checkout Square Displays orders like this instead of grouping like items with like discounts together when you add the item individually.

added 3then 1 then 1.png

I bet if you add 12 you would get 12 items at the discounted price on one Line.  If you go to the item and change the number to 14 i bet you would get 12 items at Discount and 2 items at regular but only 2 lines written on the checkout.  Unless you keep adding 1 item at a time.

I think You have everything setup correctly but Square has a Different logic for receipts.

Exactly my problem! It's so weird. I don't want my customers to be confused. But no matter what I try, nothing corrects it and there's no place where I can work on customizing the way my cart displays.
