Syncing online store inventory with in-person sales

I have a Square/Weebly online store and I sell in person at markets/shows. Will my in-person sales sync with my online store inventory? I have many one-off items and need these to sync so I don’t have someone try to buy online but it already sold in person. I was at a market last week and this did not update and I had to manually adjust inventory. I have a few different locations that I use, is that the problem? Hopefully this makes sense!

Thanks for your question, @Bobbijdesigns.

That makes complete sense, and if you have inventory tracking enabled for an item then it will sync that across your POS and your online store. If you have the inventory set to 1 and someone buys it in person, then it will show as out of stock online. If someone buys the only one online, then it will show in your POS app as out of stock.

@AdamB but it seems still lets me sell in person. The idea is that when you are out online you are also out in person and goes gray or something so it wont let you click on it. Is that possible?

As soon as the item is purchased through the POS app or your online store, it should sync and update the other one to show it's out of stock. For example, if you sell it in person it should automatically show on your online store as unavailable. Customers will be able to see the item and view it, but the add-to-cart button will be disabled.

Hi Adam, yes people online can't buy it but still lets me sell it in person. I wish it will say out of stock and dont let me sell it in person as well. I have to keep counting an looking cause in person it lets me keep selling. Makes no sense. If it is out of stock online it should be ojt of stock in person as well

Any further info on this? I also sell in person and online. If an item is with me in person at an event, but someone buys online, how will I know that the item should be set aside and not sold in person? The only workaround I have found is to not accept online orders the day of my events, but I will likely lose customers that way.

Hi there @Bobbijdesigns,

I'd be happy to provide some suggestions to ensure you're not overselling stock.

With stock tracking enabled, your app should accurately reflect stock levels. If a customer buys the last unit of an item online, it will be marked as out of stock on your app. However, it's important to note that you still have the flexibility to sell the item in person, allowing for manual adjustments in case of incorrect stock counts.

Outside observing the out-of-stock alert on the item in your app, you can opt to receive push notifications on your device when an order is placed online. This will allow you to receive notifications without the requirement of keeping your device active and on the Point of Sale app.

For iOS users, you can customize whether order notifications are Temporary or Persistent. Persistent order notifications will remain on screen until you view or dismiss them. To select your preference:

1. On your iOS device, open the Settings app and tap Notifications.
2. Locate and tap the Square app > Banner Style > select Temporary or Persistent.

For Android users, you can manage your push notification settings by:

1. Open the Settings App > Apps & Notifications > Advanced.

Let me know if you have any further questions about these recommendations.
