My website is not working and Square online dashboard is down. What caused this and what will prevent this from happening again? I just sent a marketing email out, but now noone can get to the site to order.

Hey @jgtucker !
It does look like the online outage is something Square's teams are aware of, so hopefully this will be fixed sooner than later. I just checked my sites and they seem to be ok, so either I wasn't affected or systems are coming back online already.
As with any large software program, things can happen that can cause downtime. It can be as easy as tripping over a power cable to implementing new code that causes unintended results. Regardless of how it happens, every software engineer can tell you their primary role in these cases is to get the system back up and running as quickly as possible. In my 14 years with Square, I have only seen two or three multi-hour outages. After any outage, dev teams work hard to determine what the problem is and put procedures in place to prevent it happening again.
Be sure to have the site IsSquareUp bookmarked for the latest updates, and if you haven't signed up for outage alerts on your dashboard at Dashboard -> Account & Settings -> Notifications -> Outages I highly encourage you to do so.
