Modifier dependency

Can modifiers be dependent on other modifers?  For example:

Customer selects a certain color from a modifier "Color" dropdown menu.

Then the next modifier dropdown menu "Glitter" would be dependent on the first selection.

If a certain color doesn't work well with glitter, can "glitter" be greyed out and not be able to be chosen?

Example:  customer chooses "Black" as their color and glitter doesn't work well with black so the "Glitter" modifier dropdown is now greyed out.

Thanks.

HI, the best way for this to work correctly would be to add Variations.  Then no option to select something that is not available (colors do not pair).

Its clunky but does the job.

Black, no glitter

Black, red glitter

Black, green glitter

White, no glitter

White, red glitter

White, green glitter

Hope This Helps!

Hi, We have a pizza truck and the variation idea above won't work for our list of toppings? For each topping customers can choose extra. I need to force the selection of the topping before they can select extra of that topping. Too many times our online store is undercharging for extra toppings because the customer only selects extra. Suggestions?

I also need the same thing. A modifier depending on the selection of another modifier.

Actually, any of the below list would work...

1- Modifier depending on another modifier selection.

2- Option Set depending on another Option Set selection.

3- Option Set depending on a modifier selection.

4- Modifier depending on an Option Set selection.

While any of these would work; it seems none of them is available for setting up at the moment. And no, the above variation example doesn't work for my case.

Any ideas if this can be achieved?

Thanks...

Hi @hoconewport,

Thanks for writing in 😊 This is a great question.

At this time, the ability to create a modifier or option that's linked to another set of modifier, or options would currently be a feature request. I'd be happy to pass this on to our product team for consideration! Would you be able to share a use case of how you'd use this feature in your day to day, so we can get a better idea of what you're after?

@Arie

I did some search on the forums and it looks like the same or very similar requests have been made since 2018 and yet it is still not developed. I am not that much hopeful but please pass the request to the product team anyway.

Service-->Brand-->Model No.

Screen Repair -->iPhone --> iPh 7

                         -->iPhone --> iPh 8

                         -->Sam.    --> Note 9

                         -->Sam.    --> Note 10

Any update in 2022 if this type of functionality is any closer to being a reality?  If not, I'll probably have to consider adding the additional variations solution to my base item to cover all the possible options I would need. Workable yes, but a bit clunky.

I was hoping that there would be a way to have certain modifiers applicable to only one or some variations of the same item.

In my case, something like this would be ideal:

Default Holiday Item

Variation 1: Item is for personal customer/client

Modification: Holiday messages include ONLY the following choices

Variation 2: Item is for a business customer/client

Modification: Holiday greeting includes ONLY these following choices (which different from the previously listed options.)

The modification sub-menu changes depending on whether the customer selected the personal or business variant.

Hi @cristabelle,

Thanks for writing into the Seller Community, and letting us know a bit more about how you'd ideally like to use modifiers. It doesn't look like this is currently in the works, but we'll continue to advocate for the suggestions you share with us here. Our product teams frequently check the community for feedback like this. Hopefully, this is something we can implement in the future!

Also looking for this currently, such as the example:

“Add xxx to your item?” Yes or No, which then adds the additional modifiers if “Yes” was selected.

This could work for items, personalization, etc.

Thank you for taking the time to share your interest in conversational modifiers @hudsoncookieco

At this time I don't have any updates in regards to this feature being implemented in Square Online However, I recommend you submit a Feature Request here. This will help our product team get visibility and track other Sellers with similar interest in your request.

Important: When submitting a request, make sure to include the desired feature, and provide the details of how this feature will help your business succeed (how would you use it and what you expect from it).

Please push this to development. There are tons of people asking for a way to have modifiers be conditional or dependent on another selected modifier or option. This is available throughout most every other e-commerce solution available.

In our case, we sell billiard tables. During the sales process a customer is required to let us know the following;

1. Select a table

2. Select table size.

3. Select Felt Type

-> Select Felt Color (all colors are not available from all felt types and this is where we want this modifier to be dependent on the Felt Type

4. Select how to get it (delivery or pickup)

5. Make payment

We have multiple businesses based on the Square backbone and we are currently moving them to have online accessibility, however this is KEY in making this work for us, and apparently a whole lot of other sellers. We like Square and are heavily invested, but this is straining that relationship, by the day.

Please push this to development for Square for Restaurants.  For example, chips as a side.  We have multiple chip flavors.  Having that come up would be helpful when choosing chips.  We would not have to open another tab.

Is this feature already implemented. It has been YEARS since MANY people are asking for it. If it's not already done, then I can forget about Square for a very very very long time.
