Help with Setting Up Ticket Sales for Events with Multiple Options

Hi Square Support,

I’m hoping you can help me set up ticket sales for our events through Square. Here’s what I’m trying to accomplish:

We host luncheons and afternoon teas on specific dates throughout the summer. Each luncheon and tea has three seating times with different ticket prices for adults and children. Here are the details:

Luncheons:

  • Dates: June 18, June 25, July 9, July 15, July 23, July 30, August 6, August 12, August 20, August 26
  • Seating times: 11:45 AM, 12:00 PM, and 12:15 PM
  • Pricing: $42 for adults, $27 for children (6 and under)

Afternoon Teas:

  • Dates: June 29, July 13, July 16, July 27, August 3, August 13, August 17, August 27, August 31, September 7
  • Seating times: 1:45 PM, 2:00 PM, and 2:15 PM
  • Pricing: $42 for adults, $27 for children (6 and under)

What I’m Trying to Set Up:

  1. Different Ticket Types:

    • I want customers to be able to select both adult and child tickets in one transaction.
    • Example: 3 adult tickets + 1 child ticket + 1 gluten-free add-on.
  2. Dietary Modifiers:

    • $5 extra for gluten-free meals
    • $3 extra for dairy-free meals
  3. Seating Limits:

    • Set a limit on the number of tickets available for each seating time (e.g., 25 for 11:45 AM, 25 for 12:00 PM, and 15 for 12:15 PM).

The Problem:

  • I’ve tried setting this up under Items and Events, but I can’t figure out how to allow customers to add multiple ticket types (e.g., adult and child) to their cart before checking out.
  • I also can’t figure out how to attach dietary modifiers to individual tickets or set limits on seating times.

Can you advise on the best way to set this up in Square? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your help.

Hey! That sounds like an amazing event series! 🎟️ Here’s how you can set up ticket sales in Square while allowing for multiple ticket types, dietary modifiers, and seating limits:

Step 1: Set Up Ticket Types as Items

  • Go to Square Dashboard > Items > Create an Item
  • Create separate items for Adult Ticket and Child Ticket
  • Under Variations, create pricing for each ticket type ($42 for adults, $27 for children)
  • Enable Stock Tracking and set the available number of tickets per seating time

Step 2: Use Modifiers for Dietary Preferences

  • Go to Square Dashboard > Items > Modifiers
  • Create a modifier set called Dietary Preferences
  • Add options like Gluten-Free (+$5) and Dairy-Free (+$3)
  • Attach this modifier set to both Adult and Child Ticket items

Step 3: Manage Seating Limits with Stock Tracking

  • For each seating time (11:45 AM, 12:00 PM, etc.), create a variation under the ticket item and assign stock limits (e.g., 25 available for 11:45 AM)

Step 4: Ensure Customers Can Add Multiple Ticket Types

  • When setting up your Square Online store, make sure cart functionality is enabled so customers can add both Adult and Child Tickets before checkout
  • Use "Required Modifiers" to ensure they can select dietary options before purchasing

Step 5: Consider Using Square Appointments for Reservations

  • If you need structured seating assignments, you can create bookable time slots using Square Appointments, where each time slot represents a seating time

Alternative Option: Use Square Events Tool

  • If Square’s built-in Items & Modifiers setup doesn’t meet all your needs, you could try third-party event ticketing integrations in Square App Marketplace (e.g., Eventbrite + Square)

If you still run into issues, Square Support might be able to fine-tune the setup based on your exact needs. Hope this helps, and good luck with your events! 😊
