City Sales Tax on Online Orders

Is there a way to charge city sales tax on online orders? In my state, I have to remit sales tax to the State, the County, and the City I sold in. Online orders are currently only charging State and County. This is very frustrating! Shopify allows you to charge city sales tax based on the buyers location...

Hello. Welcome to the Square Community, @Bgreenwalt! I understand that this can be frustrating. Let me see how I can help.

You should be able to adjust and customize your tax specific settings from within your Square Dashboard.

To adjust your Square Online tax settings.

  1. For Square Online Pickup sales, select Apply automatically generated tax rates or Use in-person rates for Square Online sales tax.

  2. For Square Online sales, select Apply automatically generated tax rates or Use in-person rates for Square Online sales tax.

After you set all your taxes, you will want to set up your calculation method settings:

  1. For Calculation method, select Additive tax to add the tax as a separate line item on your customers’ receipts or select Inclusive tax to include tax as part of item prices

  2. Select Save.

I also will go ahead and also leave one of our support articles here that goes over creating and managing sales tax settings that may be able to shine a bit more light on this for you.

I hope this helps a bit! If not, please let me know and I can keep looking into this for you.
