How to add another user to edit/build Square Online website

Hi all,

Just wondering if there is any way to add another user to be able to just access the Square Online website so they can do some editing work on my website.

Tried to find a way to do it but I can not seem to work out how it's done and I can't find any info on the forums.

Hey @fandrews,

You can use Team Management to assign a team member with a permission set to edit your online store - note that "Full Access" to the account is required to edit the Online Store ("Full Access" still won't allow major account changes such as editing the bank account).

Team Management gives you a free set of permissions to assign to staff called "Team Permissions", though if you're building out a wider range of permissions to different team members there is a $35 per month subscription fee to Team Management.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions or feel free to call our support team on 1800 760 137.

Adding the person building your online store as a team member with full access is the best way to achieve this @rarebloomshop

Square needs to allow only users assigned to Online only Online access and not Full Access. I want people to have access to edit, but not have access to sensitive information.

This is a hole in Squares online set up

If you have a chance @MrsMuttons, feel free to file a feature request for more defined permissions within the Square Online permission set.

Please be sure to include some details about how you'd use this in your business day-to-day - it really helps highlight why a given feature request should be prioritised.

So, If I already have a Plus subscription and I want to add a person to be able to edit the online store, do I need to pay additional fees? Do they?

Hi, can a website be transferred from one square account to another square account?

I'm going to be building someone's website for them, initially on the free version but would upgrade in the coming days. They have an existing live site elsewhere, I want to build the draft in my account, then, when it's built transfer to their own square account? It will need to be linked with their own bank account eventually, so that they can sell their products, but doesnt have to be now.

Or would it be better to set it up in their account, but link myself as an editor (possible)?

Hi @kekubel! Thanks for your post.

Iโ€™ve gone ahead and merged your post to this existing thread where this topic has been previously discussed. We merge duplicate conversations together to keep like comments in one place, and to make it easier for others to find the thread in the future.

Unfortunately, you're not able to transfer Square Online sites across Square accounts at this time.

In this case, I'd recommend your client set up a team member profile for you in their Square Dashboard. This will allow them to restrict your access to certain areas of their account, while allowing access to the Square Online site editor. Instructions for creating a new team member can be found here. Note: Your client may need a subscription to Advanced Access (formerly known as Team Plus) in order to create a custom permission set for you.

Hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks Katie.

So, if there is no specific restrictions needed (it's just the two of us needing to access the account) are there any additional subscriptions needed? I need to try and establish this before getting too far down the track and finding it's going to cost them way more than expected.

ie, I'm setting up their online store (Square Online), including building the website, and rather than login with their credentials each time, will setting me as a Team Member provide sufficient access to do so without additional subscription costs? I see reference to "Full Access" above: will that suffice?
They will have a Square Plus subscription.

Hi @kekubel

It sounds like Advanced Access won't be necessary in this case, so your client can simply create a team member profile for you using the standard Team Permissions set, which allows full access to the Dashboard. ๐Ÿ˜Š

The process for accessing their Dashboard is as follows:

  1. Your client will invite you to join their team by entering your email address when creating your team member profile.
  2. You'll then receive an email invite to sign up.
  3. Accept the invitation and create your password.
  4. This will allow you to use your own email and password to sign in to their Square Dashboard to complete your work.

Alternatively, if your client would prefer to use one of their own email addresses, they can set up the profile on their end and share the credentials with you.

Let us know if you have any more questions!
