Why are there two spots for emailing?

Testing out some additional features on square, and the email marketing is slightly confusing.

Through Square Marketing, I can send abandoned cart emails, however there is another spot I can do this: Communications-Email & Text Alerts. They aren't linked so the emails look completely different and you also have to pay to use either of them.

Marketing offers more attractive templates, but the communications version also offer to ask customers for reviews.

Is one better than the other? Is there not a way for it to all be linked? I would rather not pay for the practically the same service twice.

hey @dizzydesirae,

Thanks for writing in! I can definitely see how the different areas you can send emails from can be confusing. When you're in your Square Online Dashboard, you can customise some of the standard messages, such as your order confirmation emails. You'll see that an upgrade is required for certain options, indicated by a lightning bolt:

When you click on the lighting, you'll be directed to some options to upgrade your Square Online site to a Performance, Professional or Premium plan, which includes item reviews, and abandoned cart messages. Square Marketing has additional features, such as email campaigns, text message marketing, and more. Take a look at the Square Marketing Get Started guide to see if these features would be useful for your business. Hopefully, some other sellers can share their experiences with either service to give you a second opinion here.
