Loan denied because we charged CC processing fee
Issue here. First loan was repaid in almost 7 months, got offer for second loan i was denied. I was charging the customer the cc fee like everyone else. Square changed their policy and before i could remove the charge i got denied the loan and now my account says needs work in order to be eligible again. I've had zero charge backs, no disputes. Nothing but green across the board. Anyone have any issues like this? Obviously the cc fee has been removed. I'm ready to leave square, it's impossible to talk to someone.
customer service does NOT exist apparently
zero help. Quickbooks also offers the same loan. Has anyone received a loan after being denied because of CC processing fee??? Debating if i should just switch to another POS with better customer service and loans
any feedback would be great

Hi @Prime-dumpster. First, I’m sorry to read about your issues here. It’s never easy when you expect something and it is denied, I understand.
It doesn’t help now, but I would imagine (I’m NOT Square so am just guessing here) that eventually Square will work out whatever issues exist between them and Visa, Mastercard, etc. Square’s “sudden” change of policy last year was obviously prompted by the well known crackdown that the card-issuing companies undertook because of rampant violation of their surcharging policies. As you probably know, they don’t allow surcharges on debit cards or prepaid cards under any circumstances, and it seems they put Square (and others) on notice. But, that’s not your question, is it? Sorry.
Square Loans has been very closed-mouth about whether or not they will lift any red flags they have on sellers who were charging surcharges. Again, I’m guessing, but most likely since Square is the customer of MC/Visa, etc, and not us, because we use Square’s merchant account and not our own, Square is being very cautious here, for good reason since we all could lose card privileges if Square does. As such, I would be surprised if they are willing to say “when” or even “if” they are ready to move past this. Yes, I know that leaves sellers like you in a lurch, but it is best to accept the facts as we know them now.
Should you move on? That, of course, is entirely your call. I will caution you that moving to another card processor will effectively restart the clock on your loan eligibility with them. Also, in my experience, it is usually not a good idea to change card processors solely on the basis of loan availability. I have known a few sellers who moved to competitors and then found that they were still waiting to build up history and card volume in order to qualify. One I know still, after a year of switching, has not received a loan offer. I’m not trying to dissuade you here, only to set reasonable expectations. You might be better off reaching out to your local bank’s loan department and trying your luck there. Though I do quality for Square Loan offers and receive them regularly, I reached out to my bank recently and obtained a line of credit that is actually better and more flexible for me all around. But, that’s me and my situation, and I don’t know yours. In my case, I needed something that allowed me to take what I needed, and repay it at a rate that was much less than the daily repayment I would have had here.
I have heard of no one here who has been denied a loan for this reason and then had that denial lifted. But, humans being what we are, people don’t often come back to say thank you. Maybe it has happened. Maybe it hasn’t. In the end, you have to make your best decision and hope for the best.
Sorry this has been as unhelpful as it probably has seemed. But it’s the best I can do. Regardless, I do wish you well and hope you can find what you need and are looking for.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen any comeback and say yes!!! They lifted it and received a loan offer either? But again, like you said, not all do report back. Keep others updated, either. I've seen 2 with adding on credit card fees and one that was using his personal credit card through his terminal, and that's a big no no incase anyone didn't know. He tried to tell them he was just paying off his loan 500.00 to 750.00 a week, and Square told him that's not how you do it. I haven't seen him in a long time. I know it's hard because about 50% in our town charges a fee to use their cards. I don't know what or who they use for processing, or was this straight across the board no fees on any cards for POS? Ps. I love my little credit union and LOC! Best choice! ever did.

Yes! Happened to us! It is ridiculous and you are correct their customer service is terrible. I wonder if anyone has been denied a loan and then the red flag was lifted? They claimed to email everyone a about their new policy. However, that only took place IF you use square POS. IF you checked out as square appointments then you didn't get the email even though square told us how to implement the card processing there.

I've seen a couple that were changing a fee for cards and as far as I have seen they haven't came back on and said "hey I finally got an offer" but everyone doesn't post here either. I'm retail furniture and use the stand terminal and cash register, and I received the memo. What is surprising to me is that about 50% of the businesses in our town do? It's posted on their door and the counter. I don't know who they use. I could tell it wasn't square 🤷 but I thought this was straight across the board for all POS, but apparently not? Good luck, and hopefully, you will keep trying customer service and get past the first scripted speech and someone who can actually answer your direct questions. Good luck and fingers crossed 🤞
