Add Ons for Appointments

Add Ons for Appointments

Hello there,

Is there any chance of an option to use add ons for appointments being in the works? For instance, the customer selects the service on the first part of the form, then goes to add ons for that service before the customer info form.

The current possible work around for this is to have 10s and 10s of drop down options with various combinations of add ons, which is not only tedious to set up, but a bad and confusing UX for the customer.

It's not only a chance to upsell for us, but will inflate the transaction amount to increase Square's revenue, and it would undoubtedly steal users away from a competitor (I won't name them so this doesn't appear as an advert) which only has paid options, but offers this feature.

Square is better than them in every way, but it's really hard to justify using it when it's missing this feature which would leave too much money on the table.

I saw a post on here from 2019 where there were several posts saying this was being looked at or in development, but can't find anything on the topic so here I am.

Re: Modifier not displaying?

Thanks for your post, @trose86!

Currently, service modifiers cannot be applied by customers who book online. I’ve gone ahead and moved your post to an existing thread where we are currently tracking this Feature Request. As soon as we have an update from our Product Team, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Right now, service modifiers can be used in the following ways:

  • Appointments App - Add to Existing Bookings: You can add service modifiers to an existing booking by editing the appointment from the Calendar section of the Appointments app.
  • Appointments App - Create New Bookings: You can add service modifiers when creating a booking directly from the Calendar section of the Appointments app.

In the meantime, if you'd like to offer different bookable options for clients using the Appointments online booking flow, you may want to set up variations instead.

Sorry I couldn’t be of more help here, but please let me know if you have any other questions!

Re: Add Ons for Appointments

I came to the feature request today hoping to find someone also looking for this add on feature that would reflect on our booking pages.

We are a nail salon and I would like to share why the add-on feature is so important for us, and would cut down on a lot of booking errors & extra communication. These are the questions we currently HAVE to ask our clients AFTER they send in a booking request online, which kinda defeats the purpose of making it easier on our team (not complaining too much though, it's awesome to have a pending request and some info then no online booking at all.)

Example: Shelly books a manicure

(we have 6 variations) (3 tiers & lacquer/gel)

Client must weed through to see if they want tier 1/2/or 3, then they have to select the right option that is gel or lacquer.

It would be nice if the client just had the tier options to decide on THEN the add on would be GEL.

This would mean we have 3 service tiers instead of 6.

Currently our options are

Tier1 mani lacquer

Tier 1 mani Gel

Tier 2 mani lacquer

xxx

(We also have this for pedicures so its the same thing AGAIN! (Adding to a long list of services)

The next set of options which they must book separately are the removals of gel, nail art add ons, extended massage, any repairs, the list goes on and on.

As you see it not only changes the price of the service but also the TIME of service, and needing to add this on separately leaves room for a lot of mistakes or loss of money.

Currently if our team does not go back and call to confirm every single appointment we will have clients come in booked for a tier1 manicure with lacquer wanting to get a "tier1 manicure with gel add on plus gel removal, plus nail art, plus extended massage" without us ever knowing from online booking.

We always have little reminders on the description to book removal but as most know, not everyone reads the fine print.

I feel as there are other platforms that integrate this well into their system (like user above I don't think it's important to mention them)  it is a great feature for appointment based business.  This helps with ease of booking experience for the client as well as giving the business a much more organized service option. When clients have add on features with a click of ONE button, it makes it easier without then needing to go back to the main screen to find the add on that they want.

With this reply today I will be adding a request for customization of service time per different service providers since there are different tier skill levels in our salon, with the option of also changing the price of service according to the expertise of the provider.  IE master nail tech vs Jr nail tech vs apprentice service.

No matter when this request will finally be integrated: I want to mention that I believe its incredible to see so many businesses needing the same features, it means we are all growing and learning how to utilize this amazing system and now seeing how we can really use it even better. I want to thank og @Glootz for taking the time to put this request in. Like you, I also did a bunch of searching from previous forums, and am patiently kindly waiting.

This needs to happen!

WHYYYYY????? Square! C'mon! This is such a basic ask. I'm extremely frustrated that it hasn't been implemented yet. I'm losing $5-$10 of possible revenue/service because of this!

If square doesn’t fix this, I might move to acuity or booksy. I love thswuare interface but WE NEED AD ONS!!! It’s been 5 years 😭

We have 7 Barbers and share family members between us, but the problem we have is when booking we have to put them under one name and add several items and change the barber name to the correct one which throw off the timing for booking.    Example

John for Becky 12:30

Jason 1:00 for Sara,

Hank 1:30 for shawn.

When they all got  cut at 12:30

Because we have to do john 12:30

Haircut Haircut Haircut can change the names of the correct barber so he can ring it up with credit card once and it go to the correct person

Came to the forum with the exact same question/request! We’re a nail salon. Wanted to offer add-ons like a paraffin treatment or scrub to our no-chip mani services and would love it if customers were offered these options while booking online. This feature would help avoid confusion and improve our team’s timing and communication with clients.

I’ll include some “workarounds” I have tried/thought of that don’t quite work and could provide some insight on what I’m hoping for in a Add-On Feature!

MODIFIERS/OPTIONS

Offered at checkout/online booking

Only offered w/ specific services

Does not add extra time (run late because add-ons were not included on the online booking)

NEW ITEM/SERVICE

Adds extra time

Offered for checkout/online booking

Can be added to other services (it’s only an add-on for non-chip manis cannot be added to other services)

ADDED VARIATION TO SERVICES

Add extra time

Offered for checkout/online booking

Only offered w/ specific services

TOO many options for clients to pick from (clients have gotten confused with too many options)

I think this can all be fixed if Modifiers included an option to add additional time!

I too have been struggling to get modifiers to work with services. I was a software engineer and kept thinking "How stupid can I really be that I can't get this to work?" But in reality, it wasn't me 😒

Seriously, Square, this is a basic normal feature that Vagaro, Gloss Genius and others have. Does anyone know when this will be fixed?
Ex.:
- Spa client wants to book an appointment for lashes.
- Client clicks "Full Set Classic Lashes"
- Then a list of add-ons the business owner has allowed for that service shows up

- The list says Add On Services Available: "brow wax, lip wax, colored lashes, extra time needed, etc."

The add-on would extend the time of the appointment based on the extra service, just like the modifiers already ask for when we created them thinking they worked for services.

Very disappointment after reading this thread. How have they not added this feature? Sucks that I have to find another platform to use.

My guess is this hurts their Acuity product and they are going to slow roll it.

Subject: Humble Plea for an "Inconsequential" Add-On Feature to Square Appointments

Esteemed Square Beta Team,

In the vast and utterly flawless expanse of the Square Appointments universe, where every feature is meticulously crafted to near-divine perfection, I find myself sheepishly knocking at the gates of innovation with what might seem like a trivial request. After all, what's a minor add-on feature in the grand scheme of things?

Our quaint establishment, a mere speck in the bustling metropolis of business giants, somehow manages to survive without the ability to add custom add-ons directly through Square Appointments. Imagine, in this day and age, having to manually manage custom services that could otherwise be seamlessly integrated into an appointment booking system. Quaint, isn't it?

The audacity of my request knows no bounds, for I dare to ask for:
- The miraculous ability to add, customize, and manage a variety of add-on services/items that our customers might find mildly amusing or, dare I say, useful.

- The revolutionary concept of allowing customers to select these add-ons at the time of their booking, perhaps with descriptions that do not require a magnifying glass and a Rosetta Stone.

- An integration so seamless, it would make the fabric of time weep, ensuring that these add-ons are reflected in the total cost and time allocation with the accuracy of a Swiss watch.

In a world where Square Appointments shines as a beacon of scheduling excellence, I humbly propose this modest enhancement. Not for the sake of progress, but for the sheer, unadulterated joy of complicating what is undoubtedly a masterpiece of simplicity.

I await your response with bated breath, fully prepared for the possibility that this request might be relegated to the annals of "Features to Consider When Pigs Fly." Nevertheless, hope springs eternal in the human breast, and I remain ever hopeful that this minor tweak might see the light of day.

Well, I'm still in my trial period for this service.  And this is the deal breaker.  No options for add-ons means that I will NOT be using the appointments calendar.  Add ons for my massage services is a way to increase my revenue.  I've been using Vagaro, but it seems I will have to go to Gloss Genius like I planned.  Square isn't gonna cut it for me!
