How do I correct data entry errors?

I recently received new stock to an item that has a sales history. I accidentally entered the Unit Cost Price as $74.00 instead of $0.74!! How can I fix this data entry error? I've tried just updating the Unit Cost but that only affects future receivals. The only way I can see to do it is to delete the entire item and enter it again, but then I will lose all the transaction history on that and the receival dates will be all wrong. Surely Square allows for user error and provides a way to correct???

Hey @SawyersValleyCC

Thanks for writing back in to the community and sorry to hear about the hassle with your items!

Deleting an item from your library doesn't delete the sales history of that item. You'll still be able to see sales for the item via your Item Sales Report, and it'll also still be in your transaction history. Unit cost can be edited for future receivals, so there is a record for what the unit cost was set to when an order was received. I understand how frustrating this would be in case of a typo, and will pass this feedback on to our Square for Retail team. Please don't hesitate to share any other feedback with us here.

Thanks Arie, I will delete the item and re-enter at correct receival price. However, from what you have said, I won't be able to change the Unit Cost of the items that sold between the time that I made the mistake and when I noticed it - is that right? Unfortunately, I didn't realise that I had made the error until I ran my end-of-month reports and saw the anomoly in the unit cost/profit for the item.

That's right @SawyersValleyCC, unfortunately the items that were sold with the incorrect unit price wouldn't be affected by any changes you make now.
