Subscriptions - first month discount

Hello everyone! Happy New Year.

We launched a subscription service in 2024 that I want to build on this year. I want to launch a first month discount, but it does not seem possible using Square Online.

Coupon codes? Well, there's no way to apply a coupon code to a subscription. When you're on the checkout page, there just isn't a box to add a coupon. It seems like a baffling oversight.

As far as I can tell, it is possible to add a discount or service charge to raise or lower the price once someone has signed up. So theoretically we could promise to give everyone a discount once they sign up, but that is not great for marketing.

We can have a lower price for January to run a one month promotion, and then raise it in February. I think this changes the price of their subscription. Or we could have a 'signup box' that changes to a different item in our backend.

But that runs into the issue that your customer does not actually feel they've had a saving - they paid a price as advertised, and then the price went up. When they buy that first box, there's no crossed out higher price.

I'm not sure what folks have found as their preferred solution for this?

The funniest thing is that the 'online sale price' in the item library setting does not work. It gets advertised at the top of the item page, but doesn't change the price when you select the item. For a live example, here's my test subscription for this.

Hi @RossCider , thanks for posting on the Community 👋.

Using coupon codes with Square Subscription is currently a feature request (I see you have commented on an existing request already). I appreciate you taking the time to provide more details about how other workarounds would not work in your case (eg. using a discount after purchase). I'll make sure to share your post with our Product Team and I'll let you know if the feature becomes available. Make sure to also keep an eye on the Product Updates board of the Community.

I'd also suggest joining our Beta Community to learn more about beta testing and be able to test new features yourself.

The online sale price not being displayed at the top of the item page is expected behavior when the item has a range of different prices. If the item has a unique price, the online sale price is displayed as below. I understand this is also a limitation and I'll share it with the team as well.
