Print specific modifiers in red on Kitchen printer

Hi there,

does anyone know if there is a way to customise the kitchen printer - or print a specific modifier in red?

This would be incredibly useful as we have a modifier set for allergens. If this printed in red on the Star 700 impact printer that would make life much easier in the kitchen.

I have spoken to Star and they suggest it is a question for Square.

Many thanks

Hey @KennedysCoffee, thank you for your post. This is a great question!

It's common that kitchen printers would print modifiers in a different color, like red. However, I'll have to double-check if this is something we can change on our side. It might be worth checking if your printer has two-toned ink.

I'll check on my side and get back to you once I know more!

Hi @KennedysCoffee, just stepping in for Skyler here, thanks for your patience.

Our team confirmed that while it may be possible to print Square receipts in both red and black with the Star 700 Impact Printer, this is not a setting that can be controlled on Square's end.

You would need black/red ribbon first and then we would suggest contacting Star directly to talk you through the setup.

I hope this helps!

Hey @Breffni - as @KennedysCoffee mentioned it would be a Square side programming need to tell the printer what colour to print modifiers. Would be good to pass this on to at least the restaurant team as they've implemented red modifiers on the KDS so understand the need/rational.

It would also be really useful to update the supported hardware matrix where the SP700 is listed to confirm/identify that only black printing is available as people looking at this printer would be looking at the print colour options as well as the fact it's an impact printer fro the kitchen.

Hi there,

Thanks for the replies

The printer we have has the red and black ribbon installed

I spoke to Star before creating this ticket, and their original reply is below, and it makes much more sense for it to be the square software that dictates what is printed in which colour:

Thank you for your enquiry.

It is possible to print in red or black colour on the SP700, however this is up to the software to set when printing. It will also require the red/black ribbon to be used.

Please contact Square Support to request this feature within their application.

Best regards

I get you  @Sam_400º @KennedysCoffee

It's not something that we can currently programme within our software, unfortunately.

I will pass both of the requests along though and if we do have any updates I'll be sure to let you know.
