Inventory control - moving items to "shop supplies"

Hi folks,

I have a fabric store. I often take fabric out of the retail store for use in making custom quilts and other items that are made to order. Let's say I cut 1 metre off a bolt of fabric for shop supplies. How do I reflect that in my inventory? The options for removing inventory are: Inventory Recount,  Damage, Theft, and Loss. None of these really apply. Is there a way I can set up another option that says something like "To Shop Supplies"?

Thanks!

Hi! It's not an ideal solution, but we use the ticket function for this. Rather than an inventory adjustment, we issue shop supplies on a ticket to a "product used" customer at a 100% discount. This correctly updates the inventory and includes the product usage in the reports. By using the designated customer we are able to report the usage by period for accounting.

Thanks for your response, AutumnVHL. I did try something similar a while back and it definitely worked in terms of the inventory count, however it also showed up in my sales - i.e. the value of the item was added to my sales figures for the day. Is this happening with you and you are just amending your total sales figures for the reporting period to reflect the items that were "sold" to "product used" customer?

There seems be be a handful of threads asking for this feature, some from 2018 that are now locked threads.

I use Square for Retail and I run a retail fish market where we sell food, Sometimes I need to use a product before its Best Before Date and will take the item out of inventory  so my kitchen team can use it for a recipe or for a special.

My current work around is I have a Discount button for 100%off one labeled "stock to kitchen" and one labeled "remove for sample".

The main problem here is that it skews my sales data.

With the Inventory tools available when I select to "manage stock" for an Item I just get "stock recieved, inventory re-count, damage, theft, loss, restock return"

I would appreciate a "store Use", "stock to Kitchen" "stock for sample" or at least a "other" reason that I can type in.

This seems to be a common ask.

Can we PLEASE get some traction here?
