How can I confirm that an email I received actually came from Square?

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Has anyone else got a email like this?

Got a email this morning with this as the first paragraph -

We are writing to let you know that you currently have a balance on your Square account but no verified, linked bank account. Once a valid bank account is linked, Square can transfer you this balance. This can be a personal or business account, but it must be a transactional bank account to support refunds or chargebacks. Unfortunately, Square can't deposit to prepaid bank cards, PayPal or online-only accounts.

Ordinary I would think this was a scam but there were no links or attachments which a scam email would normally have. I have sent it to the spoof email address that square said to send it to but they do not reply to let you know if it was a phishing email or not so I am curious to see if anyone else got it?

Hi @lilRay,

Thank you for reaching out about this. It's always good practice to be checking unexpected emails, so it's great you've flagged it to [email protected] so our team can take a closer look.

Would you mind sharing what the sender email address was for this email? Any official emails from us will come from a ‘@squareup.com’ address, but it's possible to mask display names - so it’s important to inspect the actual sender address by clicking on the name it was sent from (e.g. from: 'Square').

In the meantime, I recommend double checking that your bank account is linked successfully to your account:

In the Square App
- Tap More > Settings > Account > Bank account

On the Square Dashboard
1. Go to Settings > Account & Settings > Money > Bank accounts.

If the email came from a legitimate @squareup.com address and your bank account is already linked, you may have received it in error. Once you’ve confirmed the sender address, let me know. If it’s genuine, I’ll notify the appropriate team.

Thanks - I'll keep an eye out for your reply!
