What does "mark all contacts who submit this form as opted in" mean?

This phrase "mark all contacts who submit this form as opted in" is included in my contact forms as "an explanation"(!) against an unexplained item marked "opt in"

I haven't a clue what "opt in" means or what the explanation means. Anybody know?

I do know you cannot record people's email messages for any purpose other than which is designated in my country without falling foul of the law - and that that law is about to be considerabley strengthened - with significant fines - come May 2018 by the new law being brought in by the EU.

PS The reason you don't get feedback yto your surveys is that you limit it to 500 characters.
Maybe you'd like me to start tweeting my feedback publicly in future?

That option is used for Promote if you are using that. That allows people who add the form and use promote to also use it to opt people into campaigns in one go. If the laws where you live prevent you from doing that you can leave it disabled so that it doesn't happen.

What do you mean by "Promote"?

What's that?

I'm still none the wiser.

Don't you think this needs to be better explained in the Help Pages and in the module info note?

Promote would be our email marketing tool:

https://promote.weebly.com

On the top of your dashboard, you'll see it linked as either "Promote" or "Marketing" (which might explain why the name seems unfamiliar).
