How can I edit the HTML and CSS code of my website?

[Note: The title of this post has been updated by a moderator.]

I was doing some searching about customizing the footer on my website. I found some information from May 2019 about Weebly having a code editor. Where can I find this? I don't see it as an option while editing the site.

Yes, I am using the embeded code page templates and they work great, but the standard footers are not what I need.

Thought?

You are correct, @Burnt_Pixel. The editor you are using is the Square Online editor and does not allow access to the backend html/css area. I don't know if we have plans to allow access from this editor, but you can sign up through Weebly with a different email address. Just make sure to choose the option "not selling at this time" in order to receive the older editor. You will still have access to all of the store features even if you state you are not selling. Apologies for the confusion!

With the classic Weebly drag and drop editor, you can edit your HTML and CSS by going to the Theme tab of the editor, then clicking on Edit HTML / CSS.

hey   the weebly code  is under THEMES.. then on left side at the bottom  HTML/Css

suggest make a test blog.. cos if u screw up, weebly admin are not in a position to help u.     yes they could if they wanted   but they wont...  terms and conditions and all that.

if u have the free weebly  or CONNECT up grade  u cant remove the Weebly brand footer

Thanks for the reply,

I think this might be the part that I can't find, the Themes button. I don't see it in any dropdowns inside the editor.

From the Home Dashboard the only thing I see in the dropdown is the usual; Home, Website, Store, Marketing, and Insights. When I go into the website editor, I just have the basic site designer while navigating the pages.

click themes then EDIT html bottom left as per photo.

if u r not getting this:

check ur browser is up to date on: https://www.whatismybrowser.com/

if its out of date  , up date   asap....

if u r 'still ' using    Interret Explorer     IE11    , PLEASE NOTE:   ie has not been  up dated in 4 +/- years    so is esssentially way  out of date, across the board....   microsoft edge is the new IE...    BUT    weebly works great on google chrome...

if ur not getting any further, make sure u r using a latest  responsive theme...

if still not, screen shot  what u r seeing.

I think I see the issue here. I set my account up through the Square Online Store then signed up with Weebly through that. If I am on the Weebly site in the editor, logout, then try to log back in it tells me my creds are invalid. Seems like I have to go back through the Square Online Store to get back to Weebly. Weebly won't let me create a new account with the same email I use for Square, tells me it already exists.

At this point, I'm assuming there might be two different editors. Below is the editor that I see.

Thanks for the speedy response. Just looks like I have to use mostly embeded code pages to do what I need. They seem to have taken everything I've thrown at them as far as javascript and using CDN's is concerned so thats a plus. Smiley Happy It will just take a bit longer.

Hi @Chimazaru It looks like you are logged into an account that has a domain name connected to a site. Did you get this figured out or are you referring to a different site?

Hi Bernadette,

I am confused also about the code editor.  This page:  https://www.weebly.com/websites/code-editor says that it is availalbe for all plans with a sign-up now link.  Clicking the link, though, takes me to a page to upgrade.

And I guess because I usually go in through the Square Store that I don't have the option to get to the editor via Themes?  (I don't even see that anywhere).

thanks.

Hi @AVCollection. Very sorry for the confusion. The link you posted is information that only applies to the old editor. The new editor that you are using does not currently have access to the html/css area. What kind of changes were you trying to make?

I have same issue.  I am trying to add a background video to home page.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi @Pierreab It's not possible to upload a background video with the editor you are using, however, you can upload a .gif file. Just make sure it is under 10mb with a minimum width of 600px. Smiley Happy

It sounds like you might have the newer editor, @memoryleaves6. That editor does not currently support editing the HTML/CSS used for the site. If you want to do that, try creating a new account and choosing that you don't want to sell online/just make a website.

So the editor that allows you to use and edit themes as well as edit HTML no longer exists? False advertising because I signed up for your site based on the information on your site saying that these things were allowed. Very frustrating.

I agree.  I just purchased a plan in order to access the site editor and now I'm unable to edit the source html.  I am going to cancel my plan.

Sorry for the confusion, @2treeswood The new Square Online Store editor does not currently have access to the backend to edit the html/css. I'm very sorry about that. If you need a refund, please let me know.
