Creating a Blog using 'pages' i.e. not using the blog!

Just curious if anyone has decided to NOT use the Blog to post articles. Yes there would be disadvantages (no scheduling, more work, only one article displaying on a page). I don't think SEO would be any less effective on a page. But there would be some upsides. 1) The added functionality of a page 2) Way more customisable. And as I'm the only one writing articles I'm the only one having to deal with the system I'd create.

Here's an example of an article written on a page (without any menu structure). I like it - it's clean, uncluttered.

Unless this is a completely insane idea then what I'm thinking is this:

1) Create a Blog Menu. This would replace the blog. I could have a couple of articles on that page or it might just be the menu. The menu would be manually added to after each article was posted. (EASY)

2) Each new article is written on a page, with navigation turned off, and a link added to the menu to the new article. (EASY)

3) I'd need to find a comment widget (Not too hard - surely?)

4) A section containing non-changeable info (author blurb, link to the article menu, etc) would be copied and added to each new article. (Very Easy)

5) At the bottom of each article - links to 1-2 specific articles related to the one on the page. (EASY)

The downside is it is less appealing visually. It could look a bit like this one BUT I find a linear display of posts on a long scroll VERY annoying anyway. And if I'm looking for more Alfie Kohn articles (above)  I'm glad he has a menu structure - despite it being ugly - because it helps. I think my audience (teachers) are more likely to search through a text menu than a loooong scrolling layout of articles?!

So, anyone got any ideas? Is my idea crazy? Has anyone bypassed the Weebly blog to created a blog using pages? I'd love to hear your thoughts.  Thanks in advance.

Hello! That's definitely something you can do. It ends up becoming a series of distinct articles, rather than a feed of posts, which can work great if it suits your needs. Just remember to update each part of the site when a new article comes.

Thanks for your prompt reply, that's great to hear ... Question: What do you mean by "Just remember to update each part of the site when a new article comes." ... you just mean to add the new link to the menu and click publish? Nothing else?

Also, do you have an example Weebly website/s with a blog like this? Thanks.

You've got the gist of it, though if you choose to add more than one menu, like for categories, you may need to update more than one link, if they overlap.

I am in favor of this!  The current blog system is too limited for me.  Especially the way in which users can leave comments.  Most people have no idea how.  The link "0 Comments" is really not obvious enough for most folks.
