Contact form confirmation lag (and resulting duplicate submissions)

Hi, over the past week I've begun receiving duplicate submissions on my contact forms - usually 2, at times 3 or 4. I've used Weebly for years, and never had this issue. And, it's happening across all my sites.

I initially thought it was the person filling out the form multiple times, but it's happening almost every time, so I went in to test my forms myself.

Here's the issue - when the person filling it out hits "submit," there is a pretty long lag before something happens. For me, that lag was as long as 12 seconds. So, people filling out the form are just hitting "submit" over and over because it appears to them nothing is happening.

This isn't an Internet connection issue - my pages load fine. It's a lag issue between hitting "submit" on a form and getting either a confirmation message, or being taken to a new page (as you know, when you set up the form, you can either display a confirmation message or enter a link the person is taken to after they fill out the form). This lag compels the person to hit "submit" repeatedly.

I can't remember this being a problem before last week. And, rarely did I get duplicate entries over the past several years. So, this appears to be something new. And, since it's happening across all sites, it appears to be a wider problem. To troubleshoot, I deleted the form and re-created it. But, the lag was still there.

Please help, as this is a terrible user experience and not many people are going to wait over 10 seconds for a form submit to work. If you need to look at one of my sites, check www.awarenessbasedtherapy.com ("contact" and "join" pages). But, again, this is happening on all sites.

I did a couple tests of the form on the site you linked (sorry about the dummy submissions!), and didn't seem to have the lag time that you had. Can you try this? Close any browser tabs you have open, quit your browser, then re-open it. After doing that, try a test submission with the form.

Hi Adam, I appreciate the reply and no worries on the dummy submissions - do it as many times as needed.

I've done it from multiple devices, and I believe the fact that this problem came to light as a result of me getting multiple submissions from more than 2/3 of the people filling out the form over the past week shows it isn't a problem on my end. In my years with Weebly, I've rarely had that happen - yet it's been commonplace to receive duplicate entries since last week because people don't see anything happening and hit the button again and again.

To your point, I just jumped on someone's phone who has never been on my site and isn't on my network to do a test. We both made it to "six mississippi" (counting from 1) before the confirmation. That's a pretty decent lag.

It's confusing it works fine for you, yet not for me on any test and not for people who have been coming to the site and filling out the form for the past week or so.

Any additional help you can give me is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Adam, can you try the email entry on the join page*?

*I have the same problem on the contact page you tested, so it really doesn't matter. But, the join page is what's critical to me.

I just tested the link you sent @jdandre and I was immediately redirected to https://www.awarenessbasedtherapy.com/confirmation.html

If it's any help Adam and I are in different states and using different internet providers. Do you happen to know if you and the friend that tested are on the same service or in the same area? Do you have someone you can contact not in your area that can test as well? Just trying to narrow down the issue as best as possible. Smiley Happy

@Bernadette, thanks for your input. Again, I have to revert back to what I said in my original post. You and Adam are trying to isolate the problem as if it were occurring with me. But, the problem is occurring with my customers, who come from multiple states and multiple countries. What tipped me off is in the past week, I started getting multiple submissions from people signing up - a lot doing it twice, but quite a few doing it 3 or 4 times. This didn't occur before last week, so I started investigating. I've checked it myself on multiple devices, and multiple networks. I had my brother in another state (Texas) check it. And - after Adam's message - I checked it from another network on a friends phone who had never been to my site. Each time, there's a lag - sometimes 5 seconds, sometimes 10 or more. But, always a noticeable lag.

It's not a problem with my devices or network. It's a widespread problem - I would have had no reason to investigate had I not gotten days worth of multiple submissions. I can look back at my records and tell you that those multiple submissions came from all over: Colorado, Arizona, California, Illinois, Florida, Atlanta, Canada, the U.K., Italy, India...these are the ones I can track back in my analytics package, but there are others. They come from all over, fill out the form, and click the button over and over because of the lag. Thus, mutlipe submissions.

I've been using Weebly for years. I've been getting form submissions (thousands) for years across multiple sites. Historically, I would get a duplicate now and then. So, with the duplicates that have come in over the past week increasing dramatically, this is a problem that isn't related to what network or device the user is on - it's way too big of a sampling.

So, while I appreciate you guys going to the site and testing it, I need to figure out how to escalate this to someone who can determine what's going on. Am I in the wrong spot for that? Should I open a support ticket? Can you guys open one for me?

Many thanks for your help. PS - as I typed this, I just got another duplicate form submission; this one was in Australia, and it happend about two minutes ago.

Thanks for the additional information, @jdandre. Sorry if it seems like we are being dismissive (totally not the intention!) but we have to make sure we understand the problem if we are not able to recreate. I'm checking with advanced support to see if we have any other reported cases, and if there is a known issue I'll send you a support ticket. Smiley Happy

I just saw your first post. When I go to the site and send a contact form request it takes about 2 seconds to go through. Definitely not as fast as the newsletter page.

Hi @skottiusa I clicked on the link you shared and counted 2 seconds before I reached the confirmation page. However, on the same confirmation page there was another newsletter link about new arrivals and that one updated instantly.

Thanks, Bernadette. I tested our email sign-up again at different times and got:

- instant submission

- 2 sec. delay

- 4 sec. delay

As mentioned, earlier today I timed an email sign-up lag time at 10 seconds, so it appears to be an intermittent problem.

We are experiencing the exact same problem and getting muliple email submissions from customers experiencing long lags times after hitting submit (I used a timer and got 10 seconds).

Look forward to a priority fix as we all know having customers leave their email is a golden opportunity, and frustrating them at the very start of the relationship is really, really bad.

Thanks,

Chris

Chris - I just checked yours and got a 6 second delay (used test in the submission, just fyi). So, while I'm sorry to see you're having the problem too, I'm glad to know I'm not alone. Thanks for contributing here!

The contact form submission delay continues...

Early this morning, a customer in Australia used our contact form and we received 4 duplicates (customer hit "submit" 4 times because nothing was happening).

The problem is real and ongoing. Is the Weebly team working on a fix?

Hi @skottiusa Did you receive the support ticket I sent you this morning? Let me try to resend it for you. This was opened up as a known bug this morning and we have a team of engineers working on a fix. The email I sent has you linked in to receive an update once there is a resolution.

@Bernadette no, I didn't receive the support ticket from this morning, but got the resend - thank you. Glad to hear the team is on it and hope for a quick bug fix!

We are having the same issue. Not every time someone submits an email, but several times a day this happens. Sometimes there are 6-7 emails from the same customer. Is there a fix for this issue!

This is an older thread, @JDH and may not be the same issue. Can you please send a ticket to our support team? A rep can confirm with advanced support if there is a known issue.
