Header/Footer - for each page? Confused

Hi everyone

I'm back to working on the good ole' SEO function.....I've been reading help articles and I'm still confused...it tells me to 'click here' to learn more but still can't figure it out.............

When my SEO section on an individual PAGE gets to Header/Footer Code, do I need to enter something there?  I have it set up in my settings for these codes but not for pages. I'm not sure what to do here?

On the page seo, in the HEADER code, this is where you will add the canonical tag    .... confusing but important from google search console

On the home page u would type:

<link rel="canonical" href="https://www.yoursitename.com">

On blog pages  you cant add this..   thats if u use READ MORE BREAK where   posts are added to the BLOG page, which is a standard page in itself..

On standard pages    add:

<link rel="canonical" href="https://www.yoursitename.com/pageurl.html">

This is something to do with having duplicate content on different pages.   And canonical tags tell google which is the original...     something like this.   I dt attempt to undestand it, i just accept it

Thank you @whitemonkey.  I'm still confused, not that you didn't help, I do see what you're saying, guess I'll just have to play with it some more. I get frustrated when trying to do SEO stuff and just give up, until the next time...lol

Its really not too complicated.

What exactly are you having trouble with?

If you click pages, select a page.

Page Name is for your reference only

Click SEO SETTINGS

Add a Page Title  that will appear on google. Makr a short sentance with a few key words

Add a url permalink.  Again add a few key words. Dont just use 1  like ABOUT      try   about-your-site-name

Write a page drscription.  Which tells google what the page includes

Meta keywords, just cram in single words assiciated with your page   a bit like hash tagging on twitter

And on the page itself,  add a good strong title, add a sub title.  Add images  and do ALT text.  And add your text for the post. Putting in a few key words every now and then so Google can see them
