How to Add GA4 code in Weebly (alongside Universal Analytics)

My Weebly site uses Google's Universal Analytics to gather data. Important - I do not use Google Tag Manager.

Google Analytics (GA) has released GA4 and is encouraging adoption as Google will no longer be supporting Universal Analytics (UA -XXXXXXX-X).

Google advises that you install GA4 code ALONGSIDE your UA tracking code so that GA4 begins to collect data. (See Add a Google Analytics 4 property (to a site that already has Analytics). They provide links to the different CMSs, including Weebly, to show you how to do this.

However, the link for Weebly instructions takes you to a help page that tells you to add custom code. (https://www.weebly.com/websites/code-editor). There are no help pages in the Weebly/Square system that address adding GA4 code to a site currently using Universal Analytics.

How do I add GA4 tracking code to Weebly alongside my UA tracking code, as Google recommends? I don't want to break my current UA tracking, so I am hesitant to add the GA4 tracking code to my site's header, without confirmation from Weebly that this will work and not cause issues (Weebly support instructs you to add GA code to the "Header Code box of the SEO section" of the settings tab)

Here are the GA instructions for what I am trying to do. Please advise.

-------------from Google-----------

If you use a website builder or CMS-hosted website (for example, WordPress, Shopify, Wix, etc),  use your website builder's/CMS's custom HTML feature to tag your site. Follow these instructions. Do not simply paste your "G-" or "UA-" ID into the field that your CMS provides.

The GA4 Setup Assistant wizard does not backfill your new GA4 property with historical data. Your GA4 property only collects data going forward. To see historical data, use the reports in your Universal Analytics property.

If GA4 Setup Assistant did not use your existing tagging

If you use a website builder/CMS (e.g. Wix, etc) or your website is tagged with analytics.js (instead of gtag.js), the GA4 Setup Assistant wizard could not reuse your existing tagging.  So, you'll need to add the Analytics tag yourself to begin seeing data in your new Google Analytics 4 property.

Add your tag to a website builder or CMS-hosted website (for example, WordPress, Shopify, etc.)

Don't see a Data Streams option in the Property column? You are in a Universal Analytics property instead of your upgraded GA4 property. Use the property selector or Admin to navigate to your new GA4 property.

  1. Click Admin.
  2. In the Property column, check that you have your new Google Analytics 4 property selected, then click Data Streams, then Web. Click the data stream.
  3. Under Tagging Instructions, click Add new on-page tag and look for "Global Site Tag (gtag.js)". Your Analytics page tag is the entire section of code that appears, beginning with:
    <!-- Global Site Tag (gtag.js) - Google Analytics -->
    and ending with
    </script>

Copy and paste your entire Google Analytics page tag to your website using your CMS' custom HTML feature. Follow your CMS' instructions on how to do this below:

You can then use the Realtime report to verify that you're receiving data.

Thank you for your suggestion, unfortunately it did not answer my question - How to Add GA4 code in Weebly (alongside Universal Analytics). We currently have Google Universal Analytics active on the website.

My SEO expert reply:

I see that Adam edited a 2016 thread to include G4....but my question was "how do you run them both side by side in weebly"?

Are they saying to put both sets of code (UA and G4) in the SEO header?

Are they saying this will not cause any problems collecting data?

If that is indeed the answer, suggest they get in touch with Google so that Google's instructions for Weebly link to/reference the correct document in the Weebly help system
