Dealing with Test Transactions

In preparation, to launch a new business, I have been playing with Square to see how it works. and now have a load of meaningless transactions, based in invented products, that I want to clear before I start in the real business.

From what I can see (here for example), there is no way to clear these other than voiding them, however this is not ideal as it would still leave scraps of old, random sales data. I am surprised that Square does not provide a solution for this.

Deleting my account seems like an excessive, "nuclear" option as I only want to remove sales data, not the other valid configs that I have made (users, tax, screen configs, etc)

What is the suggestion from the community?

I did just read THIS post and it suggests using a second location. This seems to make sense, I guess.... Although being a newbie in Square, I am not completely sure if this causes problems later.

Hi @lennys26  - I see this is your first time posting in the Seller Community so I'd like to officially welcome you! 🎉👏

As @Sam_400º mentioned, "You're not able to delete transactions in their entirety - only void/refund them. They'll always show up in your transactions view as a point of security and compliance." The same would be true if you decided to create a second location for test transactions only. Although, this may make it easier for you to separate the test transactions from the true transactions in your reports.

Just be aware: While you can deactivate a location, it is not possible to completely delete a location. You can deactivate an existing location by following these steps:

  1. Visit Locations > Click the location you wish to deactivate
  2. Click Deactivate > Deactivate this Location.

Please note that both active and deactivated locations count toward the total number of locations associated with your account. You can reactivate a deactivated location at any time.

I hope this information is helpful but please do let me know if you have any additional questions.
