How can I disable the use of "Custom Amount"?

How can I disable the use of "Custom Amount"?

Is it possible for me to disable the use of Custom Amount as I want our retail sales people to be selecting the actual item that the customer is purchasing and not keying in the amount separately? This will help us clean up our bookkeeping on the back end. Thanks!

Surprised this hasn't been implemented yet...

Annoying to see this request has been ignored by square for 5 years and all of us, your customers, getting the run around. Amazing how a company like this can be so successful, I don't get it. Knowing how twitter works and sharing the same CEO is no surprise that the product team is not UX, customer centric focused. They probably need the BOD to approve this kind of change. Almost like increasing the characters allowed in a tweet...what a joke.

I would definitely like to be able to turn  off custom amounts or require a manager permission to customize amounts. Very frustrating to try to track and manage item sales, then have to decipher what the custom amounts were, why they were entered, if they are legit, etc, etc, etc

I totally agree with this request. At the least, we should be able to put a passcode on the customer amount screen for both Ipad and register users!

Has there been any movement on this?  Does anyone use another POS system that does not have this accounting nightmare?

+1 please add a way to disable that feature or make it password protected

This really needs to happen.  When our cashiers key in custom amounts, they are likely not adding the right tax amount.  When I file monthly sales tax, I usually end up paying for the difference.

Hey @ square rep on this thread somewhere... why yall spent all that time to move the buttons around on the app (glitchy AF btw) and didn't bother to LET US TURN OFF CUSTOM AMOUNTS. BRO. WE ARE 5+ YEARS IN ON ASKING FOR THIS.

We've been looking at other gateways because we can't keep employees from using the Custom Amount option. This prevents us from being data-driven thanks to all of the "uncategorized" transactions. Sales tax, Income, Bookeeping, Commisions, etc, are all ruined by this feature. DELETE IT.

To my knowledge there is no way of turning custom amounts off as of yet.  Among several other large important issues It seems the issue is shared with many Square users, so I too am rather perplexed as to why this hasn't taken precedence with the Square team. And yet even more surprising was my staff's continued use of custom amounts after repeatedly asking they not use that function of Square, it just went ignored, almost as though they were an owner!  Unbelievable! I will say, however, I figured out a trick that stopped the insubordinate staff in their tracks! I got a little tricky with Square.  First thing, I removed their ability to adjust taxes! I then added a 100% tax on Custom Amounts. In doing so, it put an IMMEDIATE END to unauthorized use of custom amounts.  I called the tax "UNAUTHORIZED USE OF CUSTOM ITEM".  If the staff member didn't recognize this blatant 100% tax right away, the customer did. Absolutely ridiculous that this is the only way I've been able to put a stop to its usage, but it works ... as a workaround.

Here's what I did:

- First remove the ability for staff to turn off or adjust taxes.  Do this by going to the dashboard - Goto to Team, then Permissions, then Edit Permissions. Goto the Checkout category and uncheck "Manually adjust taxes during a transaction"

- Goto to Items in Dashboard

- Goto to Sales Taxes

- Create a Tax, name your tax, set to 100% and select "Add Tax to Item Price"

- Turn on Enable Tax

- Save your settings

- Find your newly created tax on the Taxes screen and select "Apply to Items" on the right side

- Type "Custom Amounts" in the Apply to Items screen and then select "Apply to Items"

I would suggest testing this with Admin rights, as Square should now apply a 100% tax to custom items. You should now be able to catch your staff red handed!  I would also require that they give me an explanation, after I've asked them not to use this function of the POS, at this point they are completely speechless.
