How can I disable the use of "Custom Amount"?

How can I disable the use of "Custom Amount"?

Is it possible for me to disable the use of Custom Amount as I want our retail sales people to be selecting the actual item that the customer is purchasing and not keying in the amount separately? This will help us clean up our bookkeeping on the back end. Thanks!

I completely agree. The custom amount should have a permission to use it.

Adding to the requests to be able to disable Custom Amount or make it password accessible. I don't see any updates to this thread since October 2020. Is this feature available yet? From what I can tell, it's been at least five -- FIVE! -- years since this request was made. How has this not been addressed yet? If it's not going to happen, at least let everyone know. Thanks!

Is it STILL possible that Square has done nothing to address this issue that is causing headache for hundreds or more of its users?  Not only is it impossible track what the custom amount was for, the customer's receipt shows us blank without any of our notes we input at the time of sale.

Its been 5 years and so many reporting huge issue without able to disable such a function. If its not even on the agenda for Square to help customers, we might move to a better platform. Why has Square not addressed this issue or even planning to addressing this issue?

When trying to make a refund, it shows the help text "Refunding an amount (and not a specific item) may cause a discrepancy in your inventory, item sales reports, and gift card balances."

They are well aware of the discrepancy the custom amounts causes, but no intention to prevent it from continue happening?

Yeah....it's pretty ridiculous that they've not resolved this. As a former software guy, I can tell you that this is not that hard of a problem to solve. Maybe medium hard if the software is not written in a way where that feature is easy to separate from the rest, but still very doable. I'm starting to look into alternative POS solutions.

As an owner I would definitely like to be able to turn  off custom amounts or require a manager permission to customize amounts. Very frustrating to try to track and manage item sales, then have to decipher what the custom amounts were, why they were entered, if they are legit, etc, etc, etc

So for all those angry Square users who decided to switch to another platform, which did you choose, and do you like it any better?

I was about to purchase the Square Register and pay the $35/mo for Team Management.. but I am second guessing now after reading this thread. When I researched creating custom permission sets for different employees one of the permissions is "Manually Enter Custom Amounts*" which "Allows team member to add custom amounts to a sale and charge". If you can't turn this off... why is it listed as one of the permissions for different team members?

Has anyone answered your question? I see this as well bit am unable to unchecked it in permissions. Been going strong now for a few years and now have employees putting in custom amounts as though they're the owners. Doing so messes up inventory and taxes and screws the company out of income. NEED TO UNCHECK THIS IMMEDIATELY AND REMOVE ACCESS TO CUSTOM AMOUNTS!!!!!!!

Nobody ever responded. People have been asking for this feature for more than three years so I wouldn’t hold your breath unfortunately.
