Mailing List Contacts - not opted in?
Hello all,
I'm fairly new to selling with Square, selling jewellery.
My question is: From the dash, in Marketing>Mailing Lists I can see contacts who are under different categories (eg. Website Customers, Web Form - Subscription) and when I click into 'Web Form - Subscription' I can see a number of people that have provided their emails to be signed up to my subscription service. But to the right is the status of each contact stating that they each have 'Not Opted in'.
Does this mean I can or should not send marketing emails to these contacts?

Thanks for confirming @doc_choc, that would be expected behaviour with Square Online but I believe it's different with Weebly Promote.
I have flagged both issues, the email status and the checkout link to the Square Online team so I will let you know as soon as they come back to me with some information.

@maddy-b here's one of the threads.
The issue has been rumbling on for a few years now. We have used a little work around loyalty signup link (not ideal) but if you use the newsletter sign up template online, it doesn't opt the subscriber in.
All a bit messed up a the moment but hopefully Square will get to work on this soon and come up with a solution that work

Thank you so much for adding me to this link. Glad it's not just me going a bit mad! Disappointing this is still not resolved. Frankly, what is the point of an email sign up link (offered as a template as part of the Square site design/build) that doesn't actually opt people in!! D'oh.
My other questions are - how come it says they have "never" visited my site? And why are they noted down as via a "third party"?
Can someone from the Square team help me with this?

Hi @Breffni it's when you collect emails online, using the popup and embedded email templates in Weebly/Square Online. The emails come through but the subscribers aren't opted in so they are visible in the list but have a not opted in status, so not available from the email list to market to via Promote.
