How to connect a domain ?

Hello guys 👋

I have a go daddy domain that I want to connect to square online. But I have to wait 60 days to transfer it.  I want to publish this site to this domain asap. What options do I have ?

Thanks @homeprogreen and @GourmetOnWheels.

Did some research on my end - it turns out with GoDaddy uses the easy domain connect flow. When you connect it in Square Online it will basically have you log into GoDaddy and okay the changes and that’s it. After 60 days you can transfer the domain if they want to pay and manage it here going forward @ravindulak

TLDR; you can connect the domain now and transfer it later - but from our Super Sellers experience, it sounds like if you call in they can make exceptions.

HI, you do not need to do a full transfer.

The domain can stay at GoDaddy for the life of the domain.  You can adjust the DNS settings inside GoDaddy dashboard and wait a few hours for domain to populate.

Hey @ravindulak!

Just to be clear, are you trying to see if there's a way around GoDaddy's 60-day transfer timeline? Have they offered any workarounds? I'll see what's available on our end.

60 days I connected to my Godaddy domain in 24 hours, I closed my eCommerce store there and went to the Ecwid store and I connected to my domain at Godaddy in 24 hours. Or are you moving your domain?

It seems like they think you want to move the domain to another host, is that what you want to do?

Or do you want to keep the domain at Godaddy and just connect it to your Square Online Store? That is a matter of just changing some setting in your Godaddy account, that takes 5 minutes to do, and takes 24 hours or so to take effect.

My question is when you do that, do you still use Go Daddy way of putting your products in or do you use Squares way of adding items?

Thanks!

I'm not completely sure what you mean by Square's way. Can you clarify? @Control

Hi @Control I'm just catching up on this thread, but I believe you are implying that you will keep your domain registered through Go Daddy, and your site will be created/hosted with Square.

This means that you will pay for your domain registration and update your domain DNS settings through your Go Daddy login.

You site edits and store item management will be handled through your Square dashboard.

HI, good question.  You would add inventory within the Square Online Dashboard.  The only thing at the domain provider is the domain name.

Hope This Helps!

The 60 day transfer lock is automatically put in place by most registers. Normally you can call and they will enable you to move it without waiting the 60 days. It’s intended to stop someone from hijacking your domain and to give them a chance to pitch you a deal to stay with their services

@isabelle @GourmetOnWheels @homeprogreen thank you guys for the quick responses.

Basically I want to change domain name from square.site to the one from go daddy. When I try to transfer it says to wait 60 days. As @homeprogreen mentioned I’ll try to call them and change it.

Hi, I want to transfer my online store over to square, but keep my domain with Go Daddy. When I do that, do you still use GoDaddy platform to put items into your online store, or do you use squares way of putting items in.

You'll use Square's Online Store platform to enter inventory! @Control
