Is there a way to get Square to combine multiple of the same items into one item line on a receipt? If I select them at one time, it will say x2, but if I add a different item between the two, it will be three line items.
When customers are selecting dozens, many times they will say for instance 2 Plain, 4 Everything, add another plain. It would be much more visually appealing and easier to pick if it just said 3 plain when I add the last one.

Yes! During the sale you can edit the item amount so your receipts will display "Item 1 x2" instead of listing each item separately. Just follow the steps below:
- Add your item to a sale at the top of your screen (keep in mind that these are iPhone images so if you are using an Android or iPad, you screen might look slightly different)
- Tap on Current Sale
- Tap on the item that you are looking to multiply
- Click the + or the quantity number to type in the desired number.

The ability for the app to automatically group the same items together should become a feature request. It shouldn't be too difficult to implement.

@GlassJudy This request has come up before! In this thread someone was looking for a way to group items on a receipt by category.
Would that help you (all) or would you prefer to determine how items are grouped another way?

I wouldn't use it much, but I'd rather it grouped all the same items together: if I sell one of these, then something else, then another one of the first item, it would show up as 2 x the first item, etc. We don't use categories, so this wouldn't be important to us, but if others want it done that way too, why not?

Thanks for the insight. Sorting items by categories was just one suggestion — no doubt the Receipts team will consider all options as they consider this request.

You can condense your receipts in the way Kelly described, but Register won't do it on its own. That's often the case at large retailers too though, so I think people are used it working either way.
