How do I process credit card payment's that failed while off line.

if a credit card was taken for payment while in offline mode and then declined once back online there isn't anything you can do.  That is part of the risk of accepting payments in offline mode and why I would never use it as there are too many declines in my area.

if a credit card was taken for payment while in offline mode and then declined once back online there isn't anything you can do.  That is part of the risk of accepting payments in offline mode and why I would never use it as there are too many declines and I think there's $50 on this card and $40 on this one etc.

is there a way to process the card again seeing how Square captures the information while in off line mode??

A personal input on Offline payments: 

 The way offline payments works is that authorization is stored encrypted on the device with a 72hr expiration. Once the device obtains internet access, encrypted data leaves the device and into our server to be processed. If the payment declines, our payment processing system loses authorization to retain this data for your customers and your business security.

How do you know if a transaction was taken off line? I am the owner and have managers working some days. I am going to turn off the offline mode in settings but how would I even know if I'm not there if there was a transaction taken in offline mode and what do I do in the time frame to get that money once on line? From what I understand you have to push the sale somehow. How is that done? I have turned off the off line mode before but it seems to keep popping up and transactions are taken. 

Since I am only alerted via email that the transaction was not processed because it was declined, where am I notified when there are transactions sitting in limbo waiting for me or where do I find this info?

I'm not sure I understand your question. What do you mean by "I have turned off the off line mode before but it seems to keep popping up and transactions are taken." 

 

If you turn off the offline mode, any transaction would be processed by you with the card swipe, dip, or tap.

 

Offline payments are processed automatically when you reconnect your device to the internet, and may be declined if not processed within 24 hours.

 

Can you clarify your question a bit more so I can make sure I'm understanding? Thanks in advance!

I suppose my confusion is in "process an offline payment". How do you process the payment and where is that noted that there were offline payments taken. That's really all I need to know because this has happened before where I was notified that an offline payment didn't process in time.

Hey @bbutler222,

 

Jumping in here for @BernadetteA!

 

To enable Offline Mode:

 

From the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen, tap More.
Tap Settings > Checkout > Offline Mode.
Toggle Allow Offline Mode to on.
Review the information and then tap Allow Offline Mode.

 

Once you enable offline mode, you will be able to take offline payments when you're having trouble connecting to the internet. You will know if your device is in offline mode when you see a red banner at the top of your Square device or app stating you are offline. Offline payments will be listed under your Transactions tab or  Transaction status report on your Square Dashboard or App.

 

Note: There is an additional risk with any payments you accept when operating in Offline Mode. When you use Offline Mode, we can't check the card's validity until your phone or tablet regains an internet connection because we don't have an active connection to the customer's bank.

So to clarify, if you accept offline payments they will appear on your transaction tab at the top. Got it. Do I have to do anything to process those payments? Because it states if you do not process the payment within the time frame you lose that money and I have lost money because I didn't realize the payments didn't automatically go through. Can you help me understand how to process the payment please for future reference. Thank you.

@bbutler222 Offline payments will appear as pending from your in-app payment history while your device is offline. When reconnecting your device to the Internet, payments will show as completed and visible from your online Square Dashboard. Customers’ digital receipts and your payment notification emails will also be sent when the app is back online. Remember – you’ll have 24 hours to upload your offline payments.

Thank you Robynr for your help and patience while I try and find the answer to my question.

This statement is what I am trying to figure out - how do you "upload" your offline payments? I have lost money in the past because I did not know I needed to do this. I understand now that I have to do that but how do I "upload" these transactions in the future?
