Event tickets

I am selling advance tickets for a movie theater. I set up the movie, then variations for each date/time.

Two questions:

1. Is that the correct way to set this up?

2. Is there a way to make a variation expire or become unavailable at at predetermined date/time?

Hi @palace, welcome to the seller community! 🙌

Interesting question. Yes, it sounds like you're on the right track with setting up the date/time as a variation. You can then add an In Stock quantity for each variation. I would suggest periodically checking your Item Library and monitoring availability as there isn't a way to prevent items from being oversold from the Point of Sale app at this time.

The ability to make a variation expire at predetermined time is not available right now — I'll be sure to share your post with our Product Liaison team.

Hope all goes well with the showing, and let us know if anything else comes up.🎞

Hi Palace!

I am contemplating a small theater myself, and just posted a Feature Request post for this specific situation.  Please read, comment, and share the post so we can get some traction on this particular implementation.

Good luck with your theater...  especially during these times....

We ran our ticketed event purchases online through Square from 2019-2020 (until COVID) with no issues. Now that we are back open and starting back with in-person events in June (!), we are having an insane amount of issues with charging taxes on the purchases.

Issue 1) Customers will now have to put in their email/physical address/phone number to purchase an event ticket online...before they ever get to the payment screen. What are we, ticketmaster? Some people just want to add their payment info and make a purchase.

Issue 2) Square won't automatically add our city/county/state tax rate to a purchase. Their solution: they told me that I need to go state-by-state and override every tax rate with ours. Again, this worked for a LONG time without going through this process. So what changed?

It feels like everything in Square has gotten so much more convoluted in the past 6-9 months. After fighting and clawing to stay open and keep our team safe/healthy, can't something just be easy???

I have a small movie theater and sell tickets online. We have been closed since May 15, 2020. I now see event ticketing - yay! Is there a way to make tickets expire? I do not want someone to purchase tickets for yesterday's show.

I have been working through this today. It worked just fine pre-Covid. I was excited to see a type "event" thinking there would be a time they would expire. I do not want someone to buy a ticket today for last night's show. In the past I would go in every night around 6 and delete the item.

I am sick Square is requiring all that info. My customers just want to buy a ticket.

The tax things seems like it would be simple fix on their end. ??

I think I need to start looking for another credit card processor.

I've been working on this for three weeks. Today I have spent 5 hours (so far) on it. Here's what I have to show: two events with working ticket links.....out of two months of booked shows that I've got on our internal calendar. I don't know how many times today I've created events/items that don't show up or have clicked to make an event/item available that refuses to become available.

It really feels like Square does not care about those of us customers who are trying to recover huge chunks of our business based on live performances with in-person audiences.

When I POINT BLANK asked someone to walk me through how to create an event in items and publish it with a live ticket link on our site, guess what I was told?

......

"Go to the seller community and see if anyone there has an answer."

Well, here ya go Square: I'm in the seller community and it's not looking good.

Regarding customer data collection.

You MIGHT be able to fix that here - online, settings, checkout, advanced

I still do not have my tickets posted.
